Layla up here we have morphine not pethidine (I think they are relatively similar) and I accused them of injecting me with water as it never touched the pain! It was useless, but with Rebecca it helped a bit.
So strange isnt it, it didnt touch me but my sister had it and she loved it, said it really helped her, as you say it must depends on what stage of labour your at as to how affective it is

i had gas and air which just made me feel sleepy, infact it made me fall asleep. I also had a tens machine but im not sure whether it actually worked, didnt ease my contractions!

Im hoping this time just to use gas and air again.

Tens machine helped with maddie till i got to 4cm.

warm water in the bath with ellie got me to 8cm! Gas and air can make you sick, I had epi with maddie and i felt when to push but it only took to my left hand side was Very werid!

Go with the flow is prob your best bet but keep a rough idea of what you want

The morphine didn't help me either, it just made me feel as if I wasn't in my body - I could still feel the pain but wasn't in control.

I'll be trying gas and air then epidural if I can't cope, it gave me a much needed rest last time and was able to gather my strength to be able to push.

Tens machine annoyed me more than helped me.

I've also packed some heat pads this time round, I really love a warm bottle on my back if I have period pains etc so hoping they will help

I had an epi that worked with Alfie but I couldn't feel to push, I had to be taken into theatre and assisted and Alfie had to have a suction cup, but all was well and in no time he was out.

I told them there was no need to take me to theatre, I knew I could do it, I was told it would take loads of pushes to get him out and he could get distressed, hence theatre......... and he was out in 3 pushes! It was all so unecassary!

But I would have it again, as I couldn't have got thru the labour without it. It is brilliant if it works.

Hmm i'm not sure what I'm goign to do but so far the plan is just to use a TENS machine and stay in the warm shower for as long as possible before birth. We'll see how it goes as I haven't discussed my plan with the doc yet.
