Advice for 2nd Tri please!!!

Hi there, I'm from 2nd tri, but thought I'd pop over to ask here in 3rd tri if anyone had this same situation. When I went in for my 20 week ultrasound (actually had it at about 18+2) they ended up finding "fluid at the base of the baby's neck, but otherwise everything was fine". There have also been several other posts in 2nd tri with ladies that have run across the same or same-ish things. Did any of you have things like this and it turn out to be nothing? Did any of you have this and it turn out to be something? I'm not freaking out or anything, but I certainly am curious to hear what you ladies have to say.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I went for an IPS test (Integrated Prenatal Screening) because of my age... 35.
This tested for risks of Down Syndrome, Trisomy 18 and neural tube defects... I was at a low risk so did not need any further tests.

Upon reading up on signs that the tech looks for in the ultrasound, flood at the base of the neck was one of these things. But upon speaking with many other friends/family who had this test done, they told me that they were told their baby had fluid at the base of the neck and were at high risk for Downs but ended up having a completely healthy baby - that the fluid receded as the baby got more developed. Some women who were considered low risk also ended up have a child with Downs.

With this in mind... I would not worry about it. If you are extremely worried, talk to your doctor about getting any available tests done to eliminate your chances of such chromozone defects. It will ease your mind, but remember to also take the tests as a grain of salt... and not as complete truth!!!

The only real justification you will have is the day your baby is born.
Good luck hun.
