Just been to GP raised blood pressure

Hi ladies,

Just a rant really.....a bit long, sorry! I've had swollen ankles for a few weeks now, but over the last few days they've been bigger than before, and my feet are also huge. My hands are puffy, and stiff too. I work at a hospital and after some of my work mates said they'd noticed my ankles and feet being bigger each day, I did my blood pressure before I left work. It was 140/90. My blood pressure is usually low, it was 115/65 at my booking in!
So, I took myself off to the GP this morning, and today it is 138/86, and my ankles have not particularly gone down either. They found an infection in my urine too, so got some antibiotics. The GP doesn't know whether to treat my blood pressure or not, so she wants to see what it's like when I see the midwife on Tuesday before she makes her decision.
I am still working, and I'm not sure what to do, the GP said if I wanted to that I should self cert till I see the midwife on Tuesday, meaning I will miss my shift on Sunday, Monday and if I have Tuesday off too I don't have to return to work till Thursday then....(I have Wednesday off anyway). My DH wants me to self cert, then get signed off till the end of May when I will finish work anyway.
I just don't know what to do, I don't want to put my and my babies health at risk, and make myself too tired to enjoy the last few weeks of pregnancy (yeah right....I'm soooo uncomfortable!) and I am really tired when I'm at work. But I would like to spend the time off with the baby afterwards rather than use it now....

Have I come to the time where I should admit defeat and give up on this work lark?
Thanks for listening, and cookies to those who made it to the end!

oh no what a horrible situation to be in. sorry you are having this worry right now! i say just take the rest now - it sounds like you really could do with it tbh, stressing out and being on your feet all the time wont helpyour bp. if you have a sick note that is different from normal holidays isn't it? so you will still get all your supposed time with your newbabe?

you still have a good few weeks to go till full term/due date i say def do whatever it takes to enable baby to stay in longer. don't feel bad/guilty about work, just do what YOU need to do!

i hope your bp comes down for you.

xXx

Hi I think you should self certify too. Even until Tuesday then see how you are once you have spoke with your midwife. I am due about the same time as you and to be honest it is much harder than I remember first time round. Luckily I am only working 3 days using my holidays up so it is bearable although I will probably be asleep about 7pm tonight.

Think of you and baby which I am sure you will. It is such a dilemma to do the best. Good luck whatever you decide xx
