Was just wondering??

Hello everyone,

I haven't posted before, but i was just wondering about something that has been worrying me over past few days, reading other peoples threads.

I am 36 weeks pregnant, and have never had my bump measured with a tape measure. At my mw appointments She usually feels my tum listens and with the doppla. She has not said there are any probs or anything but i am starting to wonder how she would know without measuring to see if baby is big or small.

Does everyne elso get measured with a tape? Do you think i should ask why i haven't been or am i just being paranoid?

I've never been measured...i've been told babies size at scans but nothing has ever happened with a tape measure. i don't mind the lack of tape measuring- i think that it wouldnt b very good at telling LOs size coz ur bump size could b due to water levels and how much fat u might have around there etc. i know my sister kept getting told my MW that by the size of her belly she's going to have a HUGE baby but he was 7lbs. they said she porbably had alot of water.

I bet if u ask ur mw tho they'll do it for u x

Some places dont do this any more, as it is SO unreliable. And it stresses mum's out if is not exactly within the normal range. Things like baby's position can affect it and even who is doing it.

Thanks girls,

I feel a bit better now. I am normally quite a calm person but i seem to be getting in a tiz about various things that i would usually take in my stride!!! It must be the hormones!

I've never been measured either. The midwife just has a feel of the bump then gets the doppler out to check the heartbeat.

I have been measured at each visit since 28 weeks but I don't think its that accurate as it depends on how the baby is lying too, talk to your mw at your next appointment, take care XX
