Mouth Ulcers and Herpes Virus

Did anyone see on the news a few weeks ago about the baby that died of herpes after getting a cold sore from its mother?

I have always suffered from mouth ulcers, and have had blood tests which showed positive for the herpes virus.

When I asked my midwife about it she said she didn't know anything about it.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks.

If you have suffered for a long time your baby will have built up immunity, the danger is when you get your first coldsore when pregnant or just after baby is born xxxxx

Oh good..I should be ok then...I've always suffered from Cold sores and I'm sure I've gotten a couple during my pregnancy, so my baby should be ok?

Thanks everyone.

My midwife really annoyed me to be honest. She is completely dismissive of all of my concerns. Her stock answer to everything is 'yes thats perfectly normal, don't worry about it'

So I end up feeling neurotic all the time!

Nic grrrr, why do they do that, they think they are easing your worries but actually only adding to them.

Sherileigh yes you should of passed the anti bodies on to your baby as your immune system has already had to deal with it x

My DR does the same to me...everything is fine, nothing is abnormal. I asked him about getting a note to get off work a couple of weeks early..he just said he can write me a note saying I'm pregnant as being tired and in pain isn't a reason to be off work! Yeah I dare you to try it buddy!!

My OB told me that my back pain could make delivery easier, and I should be more optimistic. I was a little miffed till I caught a glance of my file at my last appointment and he'd made note of it. Some of them are just flighty I guess.
