My partners mum is a specialist pain management nurse and yesterday she gave me a TENS machine. I know that they are fine to use during labour but are they safe to use before then for pregnancy aches and pains?

I ask because the information booklet I have contradicts itself! On one page it has a list of illnesses TENS can be used for including pregnancy/labour pains but on the next page it says "warning, electrical stimulation safety has not been tested in pregnancy. Do not use during pregnancy" I'm confused lol. Thanks all xx

I asked this question to my Midwife and she said no not to use until Labour only, but since then I have also read that it is fine to use in pregnancy??!! I haven't used mine as decided to listen to midwife but I would love to if it's possible? this wasn't really helpful was it? sorry. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for answers to this too ..

Thanks Abbie. Yeah thats why i am so confused! Midwife says one thing, GP says another..internet, magazines and books all contradict themselves lol. I hope you can use them throughout pregnancy aswell! But at the minute I darent risk it. Although now my partner is quite offended because he's mums a nurse and he thinks i dont trust her! I dont know ey!!

Mhy physion recommended a TENS machine to help with my SPD and backache. BUT, I was told NOT to use it before 37 weeks as it could stimulate labour.

After 37 weeks, it was constantly stuck to my back!!!

Didn't help much though.

Hmm how true is that? I want one if its true
