Really bad heartburn

I was just wondering how everyone else copes with this?

I take gaviscon but I seem to be using an awful lot. Is there any foods I could cut out or anything else I could do to try and ease it a bit.

Thanks

Not preg but have had reflux for years so consider myself to have knowledge lol. Aside from gaviscon there are other chewy tablets.

Then there's certain foods that are worse, orange juice, fizzy drinks, just any fruit juices actually (including fruit squashes). Anything that tastes sour or anything spicy. Also i was told by my consultant that chocolate can make it worse, because it can be related to female hormones and chocolate makes the effect worse. Milk can help stop symptoms. As can sleeping with more pillows so you're propped up and get it less at night.

Think that's it xx

Oh, forgot a biggie. Eat 6 smaller meals a day rather than 3 large ones. Easier to digest so less acid produced xx

I was using gaviscon but not it doesn't really work. I have found a glass of milk is good and that seems to be working now.

I've dealt with reflux for a few years now too and one of the main foods that gives me issues is tomatoes..... and I love em! One thing that definately helps is drinking a glass of milk with whatever you are eating.
Oh! and also not to lay down to soon after eating...the food doesn't get a chance to settle properly.
Hope that helps!

You can also take TUMS. My doctor who is also pregnant said we can, and it's also in a booklet she gave me today.

Hi there. Got this off childbirth.org:

Hormones released during pregnancy allow the softening of the sphincter between the esophagus and stomach. This lets stomach acids back up into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation. This may also occur in the latter months of pregnancy as your baby pushes all of your organs upward.

Suggestions:

Eat smaller, more frequent meals
Remain upright for an hour after eating, lying down can irritate the problem
Eating yogurt or drinking milk can help
Avoid spicy or greasy foods
Try a tablespoon of honey in a glass of warm milk
Mercurius Solubilis 6C three times daily

These things are all ok to do during pregnancy.

HTH. Jen.

A cup of tea seems to make mine worse so I've swapped it for drinking chocolate or milk. Bending over a lot and being busy also makes it worse.

I find a day on dry crackers and warm water helps clear it for a while. I only have to look at food and I feel the burn. I sympathise! I can't wait to eat cheese and cake again

I've just had a bowl of Shreddies in milk and have heartburn! Can't get much more bland than that, and I still need to gulp the bloody Gaviscon down.

We had Pizza last night and I woke up an hour after going sleep swallowing acid back down! So pizza is off the menu for the next week.

I haven't found that anything works to be honest, sorry! I get heartburn before I've even eaten my breakfast in the morning so I've just figured that it'll go away when Spud gets here and I need to live with it until then.
