I was induced at 10am on Tuesday 11th Sept, and went into labour pretty much straight away. My waters were broken at 4:55pm, and I gave birth at 9pm.

After my waters were broken, I was strapped to a Continuous Electronic Monitoring Machine to monitor my contractions and Joey's heartbeat. I had to lay down as still as possible while strapped to it, until after I gave birth. In the early stages of my labour I was regularly strapped to the machine too; when you are induced you need to be continuously monitored, which is why they can't just send you home.

Because I needed stitches and then had high blood pressure after I gave birth, I wasn't discharged to the ward till 5am on Wednesday 12th. I went home on the afternoon of Thursday 13th.

If you wait till your 42 weeks, you will have to stay in hospital to be monitered till the little ones born.. well thats how it works here.. the ladies arent allowed to leave there bed if being monitered constantly and are pretty much stuck there till they give birth.. thats if they dont agree to a section straight away..if you wait till 42 weeks and have a specific day for a section you COULD be in early morning and out the NEXT day afternoon.. thats assuming nothing is wrong and everything went smoothly...

Goodluck let us know!

Hi Louise,

When I was induced I thought I was going to have to have the gel/pessasry but the doctor said as I was 2cm dialated they could just break my waters, he said if a midwife can get in to your cervix to do a sweep then they can get in to break your waters......I would ask about this as it may speed things up just a little (you'd not have to hang around waiting for the gel to take effect)
I thought it would hurt having my waters broken but I didn't feel a thing - infact I found it quite funny that there was so much of the stuff!
If you can have that done and get hooked up to the drip things normally start to happen pretty quickly (or they did with me)
If your not keen on the Gas & Air or Diamorphine then I'd definately reconmend the epidural (it doesn't hurt!) and have it sooner rather than later as you have to keep really still and its quite hard to do when your contractions are close together, you can let it ware off towards the end so you can feel the pushes!
My Labour was 18hours and 13mins (I'm still nagging chris about it ) although had Noah been facing the right way I'm sure it would have been a whole lot quicker.......he just got too comfy and didn't want to come!
At one point in my Labour I did want a c-section and when they said about it I just asked If I could have one, I thought if they don't know if anything else is going to work then why don't they just do the way it will work? I'm now so glad I didn't have one as I wouldn't be 100% mobile for 6 weeks and would struggle to feed, change etc! I stayed in hospotal 1 night but I think that was more to do with having to be cut and my blood loss! It was ok being in hospital as there was always a midwife on hand when I was stuck with something or worried, if i was at home straight away I probably would have worried myself at every little move he made!

I know its so so hard but try to relax and just go with what the doctors reconmend, just think if you get induced this time next week you will have your little boy and you'll probably be thinking 'what was I so worried about?'

Its the most amazing feeling in the world seeing your little baby, I didn't have a very good labour but would do it all again tomorrow!

Good Luck xxx

My waters went at 10 days over but naff all else happened so went in for induction at 12 days overdue.
Had contractions on and off for 2 days and once induction starts you have to stay in so they can monitor bubs.
Finally gave birth 14 days overdue.
But when I was first seen I hadn't dilated at all so if you have started dilating things might go faster.

The mw did say that if I go overdue and nothing happens I could go in every other day for bubs to be monitored and be checked and twice a week so they could scan the placenta to make sure it was still working ok.
But my waters went so it wasn't really an option.

Good Luck Louise
