My goodness, hi girls I havent had my lil boy yet, but my god I had the HORRENDOUS v/e.
They gave me laughing gas to relax me and it is the WORST thing ever, I will def NOT be having that when im in labour. I didnt know where I was, what I was doing, or WHO I was lol.
Here I am breathing in this gas, wondering what the hell was going on around me, why my voice sounded like a bloke; I felt as pissed as a parrot, as high as a kite, and then all of a sudden BOOM.. My bloody cervix is being stretched out, and damn, I thought they said gas helps with pain? bollocks does it! Seriously, it was NOT GOOD, but I FINALLY had the V/E; Im dilated to just 1cm and my cervix is extremely thinned out; Im due for induction on thurs at 8am, but DRs think I will def go into labour before that as I lost my plug pretty much there and then.
They also scanned me so I could see my lil boy, and estimate his weight- he's a healthy 7 1/2 lb-er, boardering on the 8lb mark so oooooouch, its going to sting!

go with what feels right for you, altho I was very anti epidural first time round but when I was induced and the contractions were coming fast and furious I wanted any drugs on offer

Thats a healthy weight-so much for them saying all along he was going to be a big baby-what a relief for you! Rebecca was 8lb 8oz and that was enough for me!

I couldnt get on with gas and air either, some poeple take to it right away and find it really helps, others cant, for me it made me feel sick and dizzy and i didnt like not feeling in control.

How comes they scaned you, was there something wrong? must have been amazing to see at this stage, did you get a pic?

No nothing was wrong, I was in a room with a portable u/s machine and as the head consultant was doing my V/E, she decided as she was there. she wanted to take a look at him just being nice I think, letting me see him.
I couldnt make much of it out to be honest, everything looked so big. She said he needed a pee and if we waited long enough we would see it lol, but nah, I didnt really wanna see my little boy peeing in my womb.

I couldnt get on with gas and air, they said it had no taste, but to me it did... I couldnt describe the taste but it definitely had one. Gave me a sore throat too and like you, made me feel funny.... I was definitely not in control of what was going on, and I think thats what put me off too.. I dont like the "where am I"? kinda feeling, or feeling as though I just wanna pass out,plus, I see no point in using it because it didnt take the sting of the exam off.. the dr said she just gave it me to make my muscles floppy as its easier on her to do the exam that way;

I don't recommend pethedine then either hun!! ... that makes you sleep, or some people sick and VERY woozy!!

My friend had Gas and Air when she had some stitches (not related to childbirth) and said the same as you, it was horrible etc but when she had a baby and was in labour she tried it again and found it helped.... I think maybe when the contractions are coming it might help you as there's something to deal with (if you know what I mean?)

Anyway yeah I agree with Imi, pethidine is an awful thing and didn't take the pain away but made me feel really out of it
