Babyshower/First OBGyn appointment

I had my babyshower on Sunday It was enormous and overwhelming as all hell, but it went really well. All I have to buy now is a carseat, everything else was gifted. My girlfriend drove all the way from Montreal for it (9-10hr drive) and a lot of friends from highschool showed up who I haven't seen forever.

It took me 2 days of sleep/sorting through stuff to recover, lol. I've never been so exhausted in my life, and it was only 3 hrs long! Everyone who was there seemed to know me too, since I got very little pink stuff, only one disney outfit (from one of my mom's friends... even without daisy duck it's hideous ) and everything else in greens, browns and yellows. My brother's OH's mom made me some really cute blankets with vintage characters on them, which coincidentally were the same characters on the little plastic chairs we had as kids at my grandma's house. Very nostalgic stuff, lol.

Then today, I had my first obgyn appointment. Things I did not expect:

1) The doctor walked in and introduced himself as "Rob"
2) "Rob" was wearing an orange plaid shirt, blue jeans, and motorcycle boots and no lab coat
3) For someone who had just come from an emergancy c-section, "Rob" seemed pretty chill. More like post-picnic than post-surgery.
4) "Rob" informed me that they had every type of pain relief imaginable, except medicinal marijuana - which I was free to bring as long as I shared it with him.

I'm in love, lol. I couldn't have invented a better doctor to deliver my baby. He is no-nonsense, no stress and assumes everyone else has his sense of humor. (These are the people I find entertaining that everyone else seems to find offensive, lol) Not many professionals will make jokes about pot to their pregnant patients. My coworker got the cute obgyn, but I got the cool one 8)

My ob drives a motorcycle, what can yours do?

LOL sounds like a great shower. I have mine this Sunday. A small family affair. The big party comes 1 month after baby is born and it a HUGE crazy thing with a million vietnamese family members talking and stealing my baby lol

About the OB...Call me old fashion but I like the dr I have who wears his lab coat. He is still very relaxed and sweet as all get out. Now working as a nurse I would so prefer working with the one you got lol

You haven't seen the OB before now?

No, lol. I'm terrible at making appointments. For the simple reason that, for all I was 15 minutes early, my appointment was at 10 and I didn't see him till 11:20 - and when I did it lasted for about 5 minutes tops. I have a hard time wasting an entire day to be given the perpetual thumbs up. If I felt like something was wrong, I wouldn't hesitate to call them but.. ugh. I hate waiting.

I appreciated the jeans, lol. The last specialist I had at St. J was such a pompous ass that I was dreading this appointment a little. It was nice to see that not all doctors are so full of themselves.

LOL they are way behind there. I agree it's nice to see a dr that is not a pompus ass lol

At vic it has been great. They are always on time. Most of the doc's have these wonderful residents that almost know more then the older doc's do, so if your doc is delivering and nothing raises a red flag you are in and out no problems. I have to say I am SOOOOO happy for that. I know with DS I waited hours and hours at times and your right what a waste of time.

Glad all is well. Not long left for us huh

I'm seeing Schmidt next week, because my OB is on vacation or has scheduled csections or something. I might mention it to him. When I mentioned my back problems and how I was a little worried that they'd effect labour he said "Hey, they could improve it! You never know, we'll just be optimistic"...

Aw good to hear you have a doctor you like. I don't really care for mine. I mean, I trust her, she's competent and all that.. but I don't LIKE her really. She's on vacation til March 15, so I'm hoping I have the baby before she gets back and I don't have to deal with her, I'll get the doctor that's subbing in for her while she's away..

Baby showers are my new favourite thing .. my family is out of town, my boyfriend's family is enormous, and I have a lot of friends so we had to break it into THREE showers .. 2 are after the baby arrives and I had one in January. So much fun!! Now 2 girls I know are also pregnant so I'm dying for their showers to come too haha.
