Is my birth plan ok?

Im at the midwife next week and i have to show her my birth plan. This has been sat on my computer completed for weeks. Im way too organised. Only because i was told i could have a premature labour because of a kidney infection i had. But i feel like im missing something out.

Thanks in advance.

Birth Plan

Mum:- Kylie
Dad:- Geoff
Birthing Partner:- Sheila
Baby Due Date:- 03/06/09
Baby Name:- Roman

To the Midwives of ********** Hospital,
We are very excited about having our first baby, a boy and have planned this birthing plan to explain our choices for labour. We want to keep the labour and birth as natural as possible however we both understand that special circumstances and emergencies can always arise and that interventions are occasionally required in order to keep mum or baby safe. We are open to any interventions that become medically necessary at the time.

Kylie and Geoff

Induction
We request:-
That a membrane sweep is only considered after 41 weeks and other methods of artificial induction after 42 weeks.

Methods of induction are considered in the order of preference:-
- Membrane sweeping
- Vaginal Prostaglandin
- Artificially rupturing the membranes

Labour
We request:-
That my husband and birthing partner be allowed to stay with me throughout labour.
That I will be free to walk around, move and change position at will during labour.
Lights be kept low.
That I be able to have fluids by mouth throughout the labour and an IV not be used unless I become dehydrated.
Vaginal examinations are kept to a minimum and monitoring of the baby’s heart rate is done through electric monitoring i.e. Belt strapped around my waist.
That the membranes be allowed to rupture naturally unless there is foetal distress.

Birthing
We request:-
The use of the birthing pool during labour and birth.
That the birth be midwife assisted unless there is definite need for doctors to be present.
That only gas and air be used during labour unless I ask for pain relief.
That intervention during the birth only be considered if it is deemed necessary for the safety of mother or baby, and the subject only be raised in such circumstances.
That I be allowed to change position in which I give birth.
That forceps or ventouse only be used if baby is in distress, I am no longer able to push or baby is making no progress through my pelvis.
That caesarean section is avoided unless absolutely necessary and if it is required I would like my husband to stay with me throughout the operation.
To have the opportunity to take pictures during the labour and afterwards.

Immediately after delivery
We request:-
The baby to be placed on my chest or stomach as soon as possible after birth for skin to skin contact without wrapping or rubbing down of the vernix before hand.
That the umbilical cord be allowed to stop pulsating prior to clamping.
That I, mother of baby be allowed to cut the cord. If for any reason I am not in a condition to then birthing partner will cut it.
That an injection be used to speed up the delivery of the placenta.
I hold the baby while I deliver the placenta and any tissue repairs are made.
That we don’t see the placenta after it is delivered.
That if the baby must be taken from me to receive medical treatment, the father or birthing partner will accompany the baby at all times.
That once placenta is delivered and tissue repairs are made, baby be weighed and then bathed in my presence then wrapped and placed in dad’s arms.

Postpartum
We request:-
That unless for health reasons, I do not wish to be separated from my baby.
That we are shown as much as possible about breast feeding and have the opportunity to breast feed several times during the first few hours of babies life. We plan to mix breast feeding and bottle feeding with expressed milk.
That baby be circumcised before checking out of hospital.
That we be allowed to leave hospital as soon as is reasonably possible without need for overnight stay (depending on time of delivery).

Unexpected Situations
We request:-
That if baby has to go to the special care baby unit then the father will accompany the baby and while there we want to care for baby as much as possible.
That if for any reason baby needs to be transferred to another hospital, I be transferred with him.

I think its very concise, easy to read and not complicated. This means the midwives and medical staff as well as your partners will be able to follow it well.
Its practically identical to my own, so well done! xxx

Just one quick question/point - I, too, want the cord to be left to stop pulsing before being cut. I was sure that in this case, the injection to deliver the placenta more quickly wouldn't be given. You might want to check that out, and I will too!

Sorry if that didn't make sense

No laura its a personal choice hun .

Some people go with an open mind some people are specific about what they want and need etc .

Each person is different . I will be having my 3rd baby and never had a plan yet lol , I thought ill just go with the flow and see what happens .

Dont panick .xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
