Grrr @ midwifes - RANT

Ok so normally i'm all for supporting the midwifes and know how busy they are etc etc. But......... yesterday at my midwife appointment it was all going well and we came to the end and i had to book next weeks appointment (god knows why i have to be seen weekly now but hey ho) and she said 3 o clock next tuesday and i said i couldn't do tuesday as i have my physio appointment which is really important so she said ok then wednesay 2 o clock... (no can do) since dislocating my knee i won't risk driving cos it seizes up alot so rely on OH to take my to my appointments so we said is there any chance it can be 3 and explained that OH needs time to get back to take me and she then had a huge go at us and made us feel like kids bein told off saying no because then the midwife will be waiting around for us and they're very busy and have loads of other stuff to do, then went onto say how today she had to come all the way back to the surgery just for us to see us and it was a massive inconvenience........
ok..... HOLD UP......

1) It's your job
2) We make it easier for them by going to the gp for the appointments when most people get them to do house visits, not my fault OH has to work and not gona risk loosing his job when bub is coming
3) Our GP has the midwife clinics tues and wed from 12 onwards so there should always be midwife there at this time for ppl who drop in so don't get why she went away when she should have been there.

So we said ok and i was just gna ring up and say i was ill on the day, but thought no i'll ring up like an adult today and ask if i have to go as i have just seen them and this really snotty nosed receptionist came on and said, i think it should be a priority that you come don't you and i sad yes but i actually can't get in and she said so what do u intend on doing then and i said i dont know thats why i'm ringing up to see if i need to go and she sid so u want to cancel then and i was like yes so now i'm going following week the 4th to a very abruptly ended phone call on her side and a serious attitude! Geeeeeeeez can't believe how rude people were makes you not want to go back. Ok rant over grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Oh hun!!!
I am not surprised you're upset!
My MIL who I adore with all my heart has been in the NHS for 25 years. In this time she has taught parent craft, been a midwife, taught mothers in the community how to breastfeed etc. I know how hard SOME OF THEM work, but unfortunately I have had nothing but bad experiences with my own MW. Now, don't get me wrong, all the MW's on Labour Ward are fab. The cover MW for my actual MW is fab, I just got stuck with a snobby, forgetful, under trained MW who doesn't really care for anything but the money, and I know it! She's a senior MW!
Don't worry you're so near the end now babe xxx

Our midwives don't do home visits before the baby is born only the booking in visit. After baby is born they come to your house for the postnatal checks.

THe midwife clinics here are strictly appointment only, so even if you just dropped in they wouldnt see you with out an appointment.

They are severly understaffed and still do a stirling job, they managed to get out to me in all the snow for my homebirth, and rarely get any thanks.

Well that's good your midwife sounds like a star, i don't mind going in for appointments as like i said to the receptionist i agree it should be a priority but there was genuinely nothing i could do i couldn't get in so wasn't demanding to be seen or anything was trying to make it easier for them and saying do i really need to be seen when i've already been seen thats all.

Yes wouldn't even attempt getting the bus or anything with crutches i'm so wobbly on them i think i'd end up falling flat on my face, its not they're fault i can't make it but i wish they'd try and understand and not make me feel bad for it.

my midwife comes home every time, and when it used to be based at surgerys you couldnt have an appointment it was one day a week between 12-5. wait ur turn system. its quite normal to see midwife weekly on first bubs i would have pushed to get seen, when i was working they had to see me when i could. and never made an issue and even now im home with my dd's and have home visits my midwife does everything she can to accomdate my needs, ur midwife doesnt sound too practical or understanding
