Left my job...

Hi everyone,

Just after some advice. I left my job two days ago, having been pushed into it, new bosses were awful, theyve finished 6 people since theyve taken over. I've been in touch with a solicitor for constructive dismissal but i dont think anything will come of it.

I feel miserable really. Me and my boyfriend bought a house last year and the mortgage is quite steep. I'm desperately seeking a new job and doing all I can, I'm so tired though and getting constant headaches.

I'm showing a tiny bit but I don't think anyone would notice at an interview. I won't be telling any new bosses that I'm pregnant yet. I know that if I did that they shouldnt discriminate but I know that in the back of their heads they would.

I'm worried about Maternity, as now i'm unemployed its too low, I couldnt afford to pay my bills and mortgage.

Anyone have similar experiences?

Marie x

Good luck with the job hunting. This is happening to people too often nowadays I think! This hasn't happened to me but just wanted to wish you luck. Have you been to your local JobCentre to see what you are entitled to? You may be able to get Contribution Based Jobseekers Allowance if you have paid national insurance contributions, this isn't means tested or go on your partner's earnings. It's worth asking the question! Good luck again with everything xxx

I don't envy you - it must have been pretty hideous if you left a job right now. I'm not sure you'll be entitled to anything like Jobseekers as you left rather than being fired (the constructive dismissal thing will likely take a while to resolve) but you might be entitled to Income Support or something? Get to the CAB to ask. I hope you get a job soon because you usually need to have been in a job for 26 weeks before maternity benefits kick in. However, you're usually entitled to Maternity Allowance even before that which is the same amount as SMP anyway, so that's not bad. Good luck and take care of you and bump.

I hope everything works out for you.

I think no matter what most people say - people's attitudes to women do change when we're pregnant. Especially where work is concerned. I know because - I get comments everyday from my boss to the effect 'pregnancy brain' 'hormones' etc etc. Just got to ignore it and curse him silently under my breath.

How many weeks are you? x
