NCT antenatal classes or normal antenatal classes?

I just wondered what everyone is doing about antenatal classes....are you just going to ones arranged by the midwife or is anyone attending NCT classes which you pay for? I have booked in at the hospital for a waterbirth and aromatheraphy class and a birthing class....then the midwife was going to tell me about the antenatal classes......its just someone recommended the NCT ones, but it is £144 for 6 sessions.
Would be interesting to know what you are doing and wether anybody has had a list of sessions from the midwife yet so I can see how they compare.

My boss isn't very happy with me wanting to go to antenatal classes! We are entitled to it though aren't we?????

Hope you are all well

Hiya,
Yes we are entitled to go to Antenatal classes.
Personally I am not going to the NCT Classes, frankly with two babies on the way i'd rather spend the money on something else!
Just the regular NHS classes for me.

I've booked some NCT classes, partly because the NHS ones are a half day and I wanted more - DH works away and hopefully he'll at least be able to make some of the NCT classes with me.

We're doing NCT. Apparantly they're way more detailed and, where we are, it's rough and so if you pay, you've a better chance of being with people, god, I'm really struggling with saying this without sounding like a complete and utter cow, being with people that are...not 12 and can string a sentence together.

sorry, sorry, sorry if that makes me sound like a complete and utter snob but this is special for us. I have a lot of experience with working in our community and whilst there's some fantastic people, there's also alot suffering drink and drug problems.

I teach in the area I live and you'd be surprised at how many parents turn up to parent's evening pissed or high, with black eyes and stinking.

Just for once I'm not being a taditional liberal teacher. I'm telling it like it is in my area and I don't want little one to start off that way x x x

Oooh, just another thing. If you want to do these, get yourself on the waiting list if there is one. Ours is as long as your arm x x x

Same here, about the waiting list. My local class was fully booked by the time I was 15 weeks!

I'll having NCT classes for a few reasons. I want to meet other Mums, I want to get to know people who have similar ideas as me, eventually I want to become a BF Counsellor and I want to learn.

You're lucky to have the option. Antenatal classes have been cancelled in my area due to a midwife shortage. I'm one of the lucky ones to have got onto the NCT classes as they are fully booked and there are now loads of women who won't get any at all! Bloody disgrace!
