Are Hospitals Able To Tell You The Sex/Gender Of Your Baby?

Hiya, new here. 15 wks + 1 and live in the Middlesex area, Hillingdon- I have been told that hospitals don't tell you the sex of your baby anymore? Is this true? That would then mean that we'd have to pay private clinics to find out- Surely not and we have a right to know? Any advice would be great- Thank You

A lot of hospitals won't tell you now due to cases of people sueing if the hospital got the sex wrong.

Unfortunately you don't have the right to know.

Our NHS trust area wont tell us this either, so we are choosing to do it privately.

Trusts have good reasons for not doing this as it came to light many years back that women from some cultures were not continuing with a pregnancy if the first born wasn't a boy
Apart from that, the trusts feel they open themselves up to the compensation culture with people threatening to sue if they are given the wrong information.

my hospital will tell you the sex and i know some hospitals will tell you but i think alot of them tell you they cannot guarntee the sex to cover there backs because as lottie said people have sued hospitals for getting it wrong. Do you not know anyone who has had a baby at that hospital, maybe you could ask them if they got told the sex??

Our hospital had big signs everywhere telling us they wouldn't. If yours didn't, you may be in luck!

My hospital told me the sex of my baby but I know the hospital about 15 miles away wont tell, so i think its just luck at whether your hospital will tell you or not. If you can afford to go private they are amazing scans to they are worth having whether it is it find out the sex of your baby or not!! Good Luck xxx

In our area they will tell you but like Jemma said they always say its not garanteed but they will not tell you any earlier than 18 weeks and to be honest all my family have found out and they have never got it wrong yet. I suppose all you can do is ask on the day. good luck.
