It's silly to be worried about this, but...

I found out yesterday I'm on team pink! Thrilled baby is all looking well, but a tad suprised as I felt sure it was a boy (so much for mother's instinct)

It's silly of me to be thinking of this, but I worry how tall she will be. I'm 5 foot 10 and all legs. As I was growing up I felt very self conscious about my height, being the tallest in the class before the boys all had their growth spurts etc. Now I'm comfortable with my height, but wouldn't want to be any taller and never wear high heels.

Now, my husband is also very tall at 6 foot 5 (!) and at the scan yesterday we were told what long legs our baby had! It's not like I hadn't seen this coming, but it seemed less of a big deal for a boy to be tall than a girl. I worry that she's going to be 6 foot or more and how uncomfortable it will make her feel...

I know there's nothing I can do to change this for her, and ultimately am just happy that all signs show she is healthy, but I still think about it. I know too that everyone is unhappy with some aspect of our body and she's never going to feel perfect about herself, I just wanted to save her the awkward feelings and "lanky" comments I used to get.

Sorry this is long, thanks for reading

x

Hi Hon,

I know how you feel. I think we all worry we are going to pass on some perceived genetic "faux pas" to our bubs. I worry about my orthodontic flaws- my husband worries about his poor eyesight. We all have something.

All I can say I would KILL for long legs like your daughter will probably have! Your daughter may be destined for the catwalk.
I'm sorry if this sounds insensitive as perhaps I dont understand what it feels like growing up feeling awkwardly tall but being tall is NOT a flaw in my eyes, it is a distinct advantage. People are growing taller anyway as the generations go on so perhaps this wont be an issue that it was for you.... but I also have read that tall people are more likely to be successful in their careers and are generally more powerful and confident (statistically speaking).

I am not sure if these comments help at all. I was just trying to point out that maybe this is not a disadvantage at all. I am sure you look like a supermodel so be proud of your beautiful height and presence! and then your daughter will emulate your own positive self belief

Lots of love and hugs to you!

I have short legs as does my mum. Baby's legs were measuring behind the rest of if so I'm pretty sure the baby will have lil legs too. Natural to worry =P

They should come up with an exchange programe for a few cms of length. We could trade some.... If only. I agree with the PP, a lot of women would do anything for long legs. "legs up to here" as Bridget Jones would say.

think of the positives, I am 5 feet tall, and have had a the jokes, and still do etc about my size, but my dad is 6ft 4 inch (Yeah I have no idea how this happened lol) and he always hated that, my neice is 6ft tall and has no problems with it, she still wears heels and towers above her DH but loves being tall, Im sure if she is tall it will be a great advantage to herxxxxx

My OH says im the smallest women he has ever met and defo ever been with and its werid and gives him back ache LOL so at least she wont have that to content with

Aww I'm 6'2 and my hubby is 6'4 we were both teased growing up and always towering over everyone else. Luckily we could tell that other kids teased because they were envious. We had the advantage in gym class lol However hide and go seek was a bit more challenging. No fear we will always adapt.

I would kill for longer legs, as mine have always been short and dumpy lol!

I think we all have some part of us that we hope and pray our babies don't get from us (mine being excess hair, astigmatism, the short dumpy legs, non-existent boobs!...)

But I think the key here is that all of our babies will be perfect in our eyes, and as long as they grow up knowing that, and that we will love and cherish them no matter what, that is all that matters.

All our girls are tallest in their class so far, but so was I - and I'm now 5ft4/5 lol.

My hubby is 6ft5 too but his parents were 5ft4 and 5ft9 so I'm not sure how relevant it is to parents?? Also my brothers over 6ft and my mims the same height as me, my dads about 5ft10
