Codeine, have you been told its safe?

Whilst I was in hospital last week I was told by the doctor that I could take codeine for my pelvis pain. Ive resisted until this evening as its quite bad and thought I'd send oh off to the garage to pick me some up.
Whilst he was gone i thought I was google ;codeine in pregnancy' and it came up that it is not considered safe during pregnancy and should be avoided unless the benefits outweight the risks to the feutus. It also states that its the last 3 months that it can have an effect if any, but as I am so near to my 3rd trimester Im not so sure I want to take them!

Has anybody else been told they can take codeine by a health professional?

Hi I had been told it is safe in early pregnancy but avoid later on but it depends on the pain that you are in. As long as you are careful it should be OK and it is being prescribed. Good luck

hey hun just wanted to let you know pain meds are perfectly safe during pg , i have been on pain manegment for the last 2 years i take 3 vicodin a day and when i found out i was pg the doctor told me who does prescribe my pills to me monthly that they are safe for pg and ok for baby they do not do anything to harm the baby in any way the only thing that could happen which could happen with any think like caffine and what not they baby can come addicted to the pills when its born it could be very colicy and cry alot . she had told me a couple weeks before i give birth to the baby she will cut me off the pills till after the birth then i will be put back on pain manegment again i have a bad bone problem and suffer bad pain in my knees and hips so i have to take my meds our i cant walk the pain is so bad she had let me know that my meds will not hurt the baby in any way . hope this helps hun and it wont hurt you our the baby the stress of you in pain will cause more stress on the baby so i would take the meds for your pain they will help you out a lot. dont be scared hun and its not like your on them for the whole pg and even if you where it will be ok . i wouldnt even take mine if i didnt know they where ok for the baby . good luck hun try not to stress

Last year with Char I had a wicked cold and the doc gave me cough meds with coedine in it...she said it was fine. When I picked it up at the pharmacy it had a big "do not take in pregnancy" label on it, so I asked the pharmacist and he said he would NEVER suggest a pregnant woman take it. I googled it as well and decided against taking it, no matter what the MW said. Scared me too much so I just dealt with the owieness

This is what I have been prescribed it for...SPD. But its got worse than that this time, its my my whole bloody pelvis! Its starting in my back pelvic area now I suffered really badly with SPD in my last pg so I know Im going to be in agony this time I know Im going to have to take something at some point because the pain is going to be unbearable, I just dont want to jeopardise my babies health
I dont know what to do...
