Anyone got horses and still riding

Hi

Between myself and my sister we have 4 horses at the moment. I am still mucking out 2 horses everyday but not ridden yet and been so ill from morning sickness and then had the flu. My horse has been injured but just found a heart murmur, which means i need to exercise him for 6 mths they check it and see if it has got any worse. I was thinking about riding again midwive says its ok but OH giving me hard time. I wouldn't ride him if he wasn't safe but like all horses can be unpredictable at times but not dangerous. I was OK legging it round the field yesterday after he escaped lol!!!

I don't know what to do??

Jess x x

hi ya,

i have quite a few horses but didnt ride the second i found out i was pregnant, *my opinion* is: we steer clear of foods that could be potentially harmful, dont drink or smoke incase we cause any problems so why would we risk it to ride, we do know our own horses and if they could be trusted but as you say we can never be 100% sure of what they are gonna do..i just didnt want to risk anything but i no a few others on here continued to ride

hey hun i work as a riding instructor and had full intentions of carrying on riding till i felt i couldnt anymore but like you i had terrible mornin sickness and also had to be admitted to hosp in early preg so i've decided not to risk it ..its only a year of my life and my horse won't mind having a break. also like evryone else has said we all know our horses but ALL can be unpredictable.....like the old plod that you put the complete beginners on that is TOTALLY safe (AND TRIED TO BUCK ME OFF A FEW MONTHS BACK!!!)
i think it's your descision hun if you wanna ride then its up to you and you alone

sara

thanks everyone !

he just needs exercising for the next six months started lunging but he is getting annoyed with it already. Can't ride yet as school still frozen, guarantee it will rain when temps come back up and he wont be ridden in the rain.

I will try him in the school as he is pretty quiet will let my sister take him out hacking for first few weeks as can get giddy ! ROLL ON SUMMER !! Just itching to ride again, not every day but 2-3 times a week he is an old fella

will have a look for other thread. I just miss riding and he has no muscle on him at all !!
aaah

thanks Jess x x

Horse riding while pregnant!

This is the thread, it is worth a read. Bit of an eye opener to what can happen.

mmm, read the post with the women and the accident luckily my horse has no back shoes on so if the same accident happened with my just would have a few bruises. Its the shoes that do the damage !!

ooh I don't know! its difficult. I understand non-horsey people don't really approve. midwive said if I did fall off there wouldn't be any damage to baby as all the fluid around them will protect them.

oh no dn't know what to do. I might have got to heavy for him! Poo dont know what to do !! :-) x x

A good kick from a horse can still do alot of internal damage...(whether it has shoes on or not) ask some of the Equine vets i have worked with.

No one can tell you what to do, only advise.

No one can tell you what to do only advise you. My MIL has a horse and normally Im up there helping out and have ridden him but the minute I found out I was pregnant I have stayed clear and won't be going back till after the baby is born, I don't want to risk anything and some of the other horses may not be wormed up there, so its a no no for me, though MIL isn't too impressed but at the end of the day its out own decision what to do so go with what you think is okay. Take care Xx
