Heart Beat

The last few weeks whenever I climb up the stairs or even the other night I got out of bed, walked down the hall to on the heater and when I came back to bed my heart was racing, like I could feel it thru my chest. Last night I carried my sleeping 3 yr old upstairs to bed and when I got upstairs again had complete loss of breath and just took my blood pressure to see and it seemed pretty high. I'm a bit overweight but never experienced anything like this before?

I think its normal.. do you have the bounty book?
Around middle months shortness of breath is common xx
If it gets severe then call your midwife...

Yeah I have this too! I walked up about 10 stairs and was out of breath and had a stich I was quite concerned as I used to be very athletic before I fell pregnant but have been told its common to become breathless and things like that- all within reason! As long as your not gasping for air, if your concerned it is always a good idea to call your midwife!

Is your bp normally high? I would call my midwife about the blood pressure just to make sure!!

I find I notice my heart racing when I lay down at night. But I have read that your heart rate increases in the 2nd trimester to ensure that all the appropriate amounts of blood, which carry valuable nutrients, are not only getting throughout your body but supplying your growing baby.

Read the below... found it on a website... should ease your mind...
It is during pregnancy that your heart rate tends to rise, owing to the fact that the volume of blood that is being pumped through your heart increases. The rise in your pregnancy heart rate is not only likely to affect your health fitness, but also your baby's fitness levels. If your heart beats faster, then the pregnancy baby heart rate is also expected to be high. Read further to explore information about heart rate during pregnancy…

If you are already blessed with a child and this is the second time you will be conceiving or if you are expecting twins this time, then the blood flow to your heart will be even more, thus leading to a much faster heart rate. Ideally your heart rate should not exceed 140 beats per minute. When you are in your third trimester, as in the stage of last three months of your pregnancy, there is likelihood that there will be a tremendous increase in your heart rate approximately by about 10-20 beats per minute.

It is during pregnancy that the need arises for inhaling more oxygen for fetal development to take place properly. Usually the resting heart rate of a woman is 70 beats per minute, but when pregnant, her pregnancy resting heart rate tends to increase up to 85 beats per minute. Fitness levels also act as major factors that help in deciding your target heart rate.

Pregnant women should not opt for high intensity workouts; rather they should look out for moderate workout options like walking. They should workout for not more than 20-25 minutes at an average heart rate, which means about 50-60% of the maximum heart rate. So, exercise to keep healthy and fit, but take care, not to over attempt, because that can boost up your heart rate, making it hazardous for you as well as your baby.
