Really sore shoulders anyone?

Morning ladies, just a quick post about a pregnancy niggle thats getting on my nerves lately, Ive got really sore shoulders they are ok when i'm just sitting here its mainly when i try to lift my arms in the air to do my hair etc. i'm sure its been caused by me having to watch how i sleep i.e mainly on my sides! its gotten progressively worse over the past week or so and i'm just wondering if this is common or whether anyone has any tips on how to ease it a little, thanks xxx

Im not to sure hun, i havent had any sore shoulders, just my back and my sides are sore as now i lie on my side when before i was pregnant i lay on my stomach lol. Try going in a hot bath and relax and see if that takes the pain away, if not then maybe ask your midwife for anything that can help it. x

Hi there,

I am just about to post a similar topic as I have done something to my shoulder... but back to your question, yes I get it when I sleep on my sides wrong (I have really flexible shoulders where my joints move far too easily). Do you have a physio in the area that you could go to who could take a look and massage them a bit?

I dont think there is much we can do apart from stretch (the arms and shoulders) the right way to keep them flexible, or if you have a bath, take a nice relaxing hot bath to ease them.... OR get your OH to give you a little massage

xxx

What do you do for a living? Do you work at a desk? How is your posture? Do you sit up straight, slouched on the couch?

The reason I ask this, is because if you work at a desk and you are hunched over, your back is gonna get sore, and your shoulders are connected to your back. Bad posture is usually the first culprit for sore shoulders.

Also, are you stressed or tensing up lately? Another culprit. If your neck is tensed, your shoulder muscles are going tense up to take the pain away from your neck.

Watch how you sleep at night. Are your arms above or below your head?
Could be poor circulation as well.

Go to a registered massage therapist and get a 1 hr massage. It will relieve the tension and they might be able to tell you what the cause is. The reason I say registered, is I went to an non-registered and they did a real number on my shoulder/neck. I had to go in to see a registered therapist to get it fixed. I couldn't lift my arm up above my waist.

Hope this helps.

yes I get sore shoulders I use a hot pack that you put in the microwave and hot showers that seems to help, and I would like to get a massage also

Thanks for the replies ladies, it didnt occur to me that i might need physio, yes i do work at a desk and i am also guilty of feeling the odd bit of tension! a massage sounds like just what the doctor ordered! I will try and pay more attention to my posture too, getting comfy in bed at night is a nightmare i'm sure this also has got a lot to do with it! xxx

This is great advice!!!!!

Indeed sitting at a desk and working on the computer plays havoc with your posture and tension.... so as Ravelyn says just pay attention to this also.

maybe another thing you can do to de-stress the muscles is do shoulder rolls - my physio told me to do these every 30 mins or so) so that the tension doesnt build up... so just do the rolling of the shoulders backwards for 10 times.

x
