Problem with urine sample.

My midwife rang me this morning and said that a note had been attached to my file saying my last urine sample was contaminated.

I haven't had this happen before, she has asked me to come up thursday to give another sample so they can test it again.

Has this happened to anyone?
She told me its fairly common to happen and can be due to a number of things.

She just threw me by ringing like that.

Never had it happen, but I would hope it's not common. Seems a little odd unless someone stuck something in the sample how could it get contaminated?

Well at least they caught it and us preggos can almost pee on demand

The best way to get an uncontaminated specimen is to make sure the area is clean and then to pass the first bit of urine, then insert the specimen pot under the stream (known as a mid stream specimen of urine). This means that there is less chance of the normal bacteria which live around that area getting picked up in the sample.

it will most likely be bacterial contamination, either coming from your normal vaginal bacteria or a possible infection. Thats why they need to repeat it just to check and if it is an infection, get it treated.
