xxxxx | Yeah, don't worry hun. Your appetite will change throughout pregnancy. Don't worry about your BMI either, it says very little about how big or healthy you are anyway as it doesn't account for individual build or muscle-fat ratio.
As Rayven said, to have gotten pregnant says something about how healthy you are. My BMI is 35 but I got pregnant first month of trying and had a practically flat tummy at that point too.
I am cautious of gaining too much weight over the pregnancy because I know I was at one of my heavier weights already and I don't want to end up gaining a load of weight that is really hard to shift afterwards. But as long as I know when to say no to more food and don't justify too many indulgences with the "I'm eating for two" line, then I'll be fine. And so will you :-) |

I can go a few days without eating much and then be constantly hungry and feel like a complete pig! But i tend to think that bubs isn't always growing at the same rate and that when i do feel the need to eat a lot, bubs must be on a spurt and need it. | Thanks Rayven, I think thats a great way of looking at it. I think you're right Today I've not really felt that hungry yet on Saturday I was a fridge monster!

I think my problem is my sister is a nurse and she's always going on about overweight people bringing health problems on themselves. I guess I feel all healthcare professionals feel the same yet my MW hasn't said anything about my size. I am trying to be sensible, I'll just try & stop beating myself up if I get the odd hungry day! xxx |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hi moo2
I'm very overweight with a BMI of about 40 but managed to get pregnant at the first time of trying (boy, that was a shock!) My MW has said absolutely nothing about my weight, although I am booked in to see a specialist at the hospital because apparently they like to talk to you about it just as a precaution (fair enough). Had my 16 week MW appt last week and she didn't even weigh me so I guess she's not concerned. All my tests have come back fine, BP is fine, everything seems to be going well.
As for the eating thing - I feel like there is constantly some sort of food moving between the plate or packet and my mouth and yet I've only put on about 6lbs. If I get even a little bit hungry it makes me feel sick so I find it's best not to get hungry! It seems that there are plenty of us out there in the same position. I have read that if you start off overweight you actually tend to put on less weight when pregnant (as a ratio presumably), than someone who is of average weight. Guess the baby can be feeding off all the fat we've been stockpiling!! |

I can understand their point but i've suffered from bulimia, anorexia and binge eating & I'm not being funny it IS a serious condition - but all you get told is to pull your socks up and lose/put on some weight because its self imposed. Sod the fact you may actually need some help!! It makes me soooo angry!
Anyway rant over! lol
I have to say that my midwife was very supportive, because i was worried about my size & how it would effect the pregnancy - but she didn't seem overly concerned. I have to say that at my scans its taken longer to find what they need to (because of all the padding!! ) but apart from that, so far my BP has been fine & i have been a bit more tired than usual but other than that its been fine.
Don't worry about the odd day/week where you feel ravenous, i say go with it, as long as you don't spend the whole 40 weeks eating complete rubbish then you'll be fine. And if you were seriously unhealthy they'd tell you when you see your MW and go for your scans. |

The pregnant body uses more energy when we're asleep than a non-pregnant body does when climbing a mountain.
Despite upping my calorie intake quite a lot since being pregnant I am 1lb lighter now than before! And it's not like I'm doing more exercise either. It just takes a lot of energy (i.e. fat) to grow a baby! I can even tell that my hips and thighs have gotten smaller in the last few months! |

She can obviously be my new best friend, but it may well be true. It's great to think that all those extra cakes, biscuits and chocolates I've eaten over the years are finally being put to good use as energy reserves! |
