Parent Education Classes!

ok so I am freaking out now!

At my last MW appointment she mentioned the parent education classes and I enquired about them and she said that this is where I will learn to put nappies on, will learn how to breath during labour etc...

She gave me an information sheet which states quite clearly call at 24 weeks so I am 24 weeks today and have been informed that the classes are fully booked until WELL into next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have held a baby once!! I have never changed a nappy! this is my first child and my partner and i have no clue! I have been relying on this classes to help and now i dont know what to do!!!

Has anyone else experienced this? Am i missing much on these classes?? I thought I had to prepare all my breathing etc in thses classes!!! ARRGGHH!!

i don't think we have classes like that over here in canada...
i don't doubt it's overwhelming if you don't have much experience with babies (luckily i have plenty as a lot of my friends have little ones)... but the first time i changed a diaper, i was a little nervous.. but it comes to you...
and remember, i'm sure the nurses, or your midwife will help you when you're in the hospital!

you'll be fine! i promise!

All the antenatel classes in my area were cancelled when i was pregnant last time (something to do with funding). I made sure i read as much as i could about the labour and watched some birth programmes on sky. I managed fine.

This time round i didn't even bother asking about them but then i got a letter through the post inviting me to classes at my local childrens centre. I decided to go and i am really enjoying them mainly because i'm meeting other pregnant women in my area and its nice to have a chat.

If you really wanted them NCT do them in most areas although the classes are expensive.

You could practise putting a nappy on a teddy or a doll.
As for the breathing you can teach your self that too, you know, a deep breath in then slowly let it out, ect.
Go and have a chat to your mum or someone you know whos had a baby that can give you any tips.
And the midwifes will help you with them first couple of changes and feeds after you've had the baby, dont be scared of asking.
You'll crack it though, its amazing how much comes to us naturally.
