Scan disappointment..

Hi,
I've not posted here before...but felt like I needed to rant.
I went in for my 20 week scan today, I had been so excited about finding out how the baby was, seeing how it looked at this stage etc etc and obviously very excited about finding out the sex. However the sonographer was a total bitch. I lay in silence as she checked all the measurements, and whatever else she was checking - she didn't talk me through any of it, or show me the screen atall. And then to my upset I asked whether she could tell the sex, not only was her reply completely snotty, as if 'how dare i ask what the sex is' but when she did finally tell me she was so bleh about it ' oh, its not very clear but looks like a boy'.
Maybe I'm over reacting completely, but this is my first child, and I didn't really expect the big 20 week scan experience to be like that. I had my mum with me too, who agreed that she was incredibly rude and shouldn't spoil somebodys experience just because she's gone into work in a bad mood.
As well as this, she took some really crap pictures - i think my last scan was clearer.
Argh - ok, rant over. Sorry.

(I know I shouldn't be moaning, I should be happy that I'm having a healthy baby boy - and can now finally start shopping!)

Goodness, really sorry to hear about your experience. I'm annoyed on your behalf.
Which hospital are you attending?

Some sonographers dont seem to realise that all babies and all scans are special to those having them and even if they are bored of doing them or had a bad day.....they should still make it nice for the woman having the scan...

sorry she was a bitch.....congrats on your son x

i had a similair experince at mine too, the sonographer was a litlle nicer than yours sounds tho but i was led in silence through most of mine and now and again they would point the baby out to me and at the end i asked if she knew the sex and i had a smiliar reply ' i cant really tell but i think its a boy' so i didnt take that as 100%. I had a private scan two days later which did confirm it was a boy and i had much better pictures at the private scan too, the one from the NHS was not good quality at all

Congrats on your baby boy!! welcome to team blue!!

What is it with some sonographers and midwives?? I understand it's just a job for them and they have off days, but in a job where you WILL be dealing with the public surely a friendly smiley face would not go amiss???

Congrats on your baby boy by the way

I'd call the place and complain about her, personally. If she doesn't want to be dealing with people, then maybe she should have a different profession.

Congrats on your Baby Boy!

Thanks everyone!
Poppeteer - Yes, you'd think people working with hormonal, emotional pregnant women would know to be a bit nicer...they are getting paid afterall!
And Nessajane - i was looking at the private scans, but I think I'll have to save my money for baby gear...which is a shame, but at least I'll be able to see him in a few months anyways.
