Nuchal translucency

I know it's a bit late for us at the stage we are at now but has anyone here had the nuchal translucency scan done and were you offered it?

Just been doing a bit of reading as i'm waiting for my quadruple tests to come back and i didn't have the scan done and wondering if that's the norm??

edited to add, if you were offered it how old are you? Thanks ladies!

Hello I've had it done, but it wasn't 'offered' to me as it's not available on the NHS where I live. I had to pay privately £140 for the Nuchal scan with the combined blood test.

I was so glad I did have it done though as it took all the worry away as I am 37 and for my age alone the chance of downs is really quite high at 1 in 210, but my individual results came back as 1 in 3900!!! So as this result was good and also my 16 week neural tube blood test came back as low risk too I decided against having an amnio which was a relief!

My obgyn wanted me to have one as I am 39 but the hospital that was supposed to do the testing said that I didnt meet the requirements as there were no fetal abnormalities on either my DH's or my side of the family. Another reason they stated was that I wasnt carrying multiples.

Hi
I had the neuchal test done at 12w & 1d (you can only have it in a fairly short time period). It's offered free at one of the hospitals near where I live. I got the results 2days ago (exactly two weeks after the scan/blood test) and all is fine. Apparently if you have it done privately you get the results there and then.

I'm 36, which is just over the age limit where the tests are recommended (ie 35 years old).

Sorry forgot to say, if this is of any interest, my result was 1:4100 and the neuchal measurement was 1.3mm (a normal measurement for a baby up to 13w & 6d is anything up to 2.8mm).

Hi there, sadly no NT scann offered where I live. Booked a private scan and thankfully the results were low risk. I am 32. The NHS then did not recommend I had the blood tests for downs at 16 weeks because they were happy with the accuracy/prediction from the NT scan. Later, all appeared well at the anomoly scan too.

Hope this helps. xx

It is now an optional, but recommended, part of prenatal care in the Calgary area. It was paired with the blood tests and done at the same clinic. Results were done the same day, about an hour later.
I think they offer it from 11-14 weeks here.
My results were low risk from both tests.
I am 32.
I am really pleased that they offer it, as I personally prefer to have more information, particularly regarding things that could go wrong. It helps me make an informed decision.
I know others have chosen to opt out because the presence of markers very often means absolutely nothing, but the stress of being told that the markers were there was more than they were willing to put themselves through.
I think it will become pretty standard everywhere within the next year or two.
