Back pain or worse!?!

I woke up this morning at half 6 screaming in pain, since Saturday the right hand side of my back has been hurting but its was unbearable this morning, ive suffered with back pain for years and never anything like this,

I had a constant pain and then every now and again a shooting pain, I managed to get a doctors appointment this morning and she told me to take 2 paracetamol every 4 hours and she refered me as an urgent case to the physio. So all day ive just been resting up with a hot water bottle!!

Now while there is nothing on tv during the day i have been thinking (often dangerous) what if it isnt back pain and its something to do with my kidneys the pain is in the right place and ive been sick (sorry TMI) which is also one of the signs am i over reacting, I dont want to call my doctors and tell her about her job if im wrong!!

x

Id ask for a urine sample to be done just to put your mind at rest. Kidney infections are really really painful and a friend of mine thought she had pulled a muscle in her back for a few days before realising it was an infection. Im sure the doctor wont mind checking hun xx

I would also go to the docs and get a pee test. Whereabout is the pain? I've had a kidney infection and it really is shockingly painful. The pain is right up high though near the ribs and quite over to the sides. Often only one kidney gets inflamed so the pain will be one sided. You can get kidney infection without any UTI symptoms but if you have had UTI symptoms that might be evidence for a kidney infection. You will probably get a temperature too - have you checked? Oh and paracetomol really helps with kidney pain (which stunned me as I've never found it to help for any other kind of pain ever!) so if it really hasn't helped then it possibly isn't kidneys!

Its just on the right hand side and the pain goes from the middle of my back to almost my bum, the pain in the back is constant and when i get the shooting pains they seem to be lower. havent checked my temperature and as for the paracetamol its seems to have started to ease things up but i have taken 4 and been taking them since 9am

I doubt the pain would go that low for kidneys. For me when I tried to sleep I had dreams of barber pole-like spikes running through my kidneys but it was never low down. Your kidneys are pretty high. The only other thing could be if the whole ureter (I think that's the right word for the tube between the kidney and bladder, it's been a while since I did human biology) was inflamed then obviously that could hurt down to the bladder in theory. This is a random long shot but could it be shingles? Have you any rash? Shingles can be very painful and its symptoms are always one sided, usually round the torso. I wouldn't like to say for sure but I don't think it sounds like kidneys. Still go to the doc though!
