Unhappy

Unknown Infection

Hi Guys

I need a bit of a rant. I went to see the midwife at week 15(last Wednesday) for my bloods and also with a suspected UTI, so off went my pee for analysis and I was told to wait for the results.

So come Friday, I'm in utter agony and have to take the day off work, Severe Kidney Pain, temperature, Blood in what I can only guess is from the urine, basically all the UTI symptoms but worse. I'm ill all weekend and Monday and Tuesday I'm also off work.

So I go to see my GP on Tuesday, as my urine analysis comes back negative!! she takes another urine sample, and says I do have elevated white blod cells so there is an infection there, but she's unsure what in all honesty! and that I've got to go on antibiotics, and if they don't work/everything gets worse I have to go into hospital to have it via my veins. So ok fair enough.. but obviously I'm worried about baby. GP's surgery doesn't have a doppler, so can't reassure me, but said she was a bit concerned about the blood and informed me to talk to the midwife! (the GP's also signed me off work for the week)

So I called the midwife yesterday, and received no call back. Received a call back today (My regular midwife is on holiday) so got a rather snotty sounding one who lectured me I should be drinking lots, which I am. To which she said pretty much said it's not her problem it was the GP's coz it was an infection! Even though all obviously I wanted was the reassurance! So feeling very much put out and not knowing whats going but obviously wanting to make sure babys ok!

I'm going back to the GP today because I haven't been able to keep even 1 anti-biotic down. But saying that it's now not even my GP it's one of the others, who I have a terrible time trying to understand.

So overall just feeling really down, worried and not sure whats going on!!

Meela

Thats just crap...i hate the way midwives and gp's try to pass you off to each other when you are poorly. I had this with a UTI a few weeks ago. Its unlikely a UTI will affect the baby but ifyou are worried and arent getting anywhere I would go to your midwives after you have been to your GP and demand to see her to hear the heartbeat.

Hope you get it sorted hun x

UTIs are treated with oral medication but the IV thing is for kidney infections b/c they're rather serious in pregnancy. Untreated UTIs can develop into kidney infections so do be vigilant and keep on at your GP/Midwife until it gets sorted out.

It isn't a UTI, it was a suspected UTI. but they've confirmed it's not one, that's why it's an unknown infection
