I'm Currently Feeling: | high blood pressure Just got back from a regular check with my doc (I have them often because of my history), and my blood pressure is high
It's not *extremely* high but it's above the comfortable range, its 125/85 right now. It's not posing any risk to me or baby right now but I have had problems with high blood pressure before and I've had pre-eclampsia twice. Now I'm just really scared its going to get worse.. everything was supposed to go well this time |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Oh I'm sorry, I hope it's 'just' high BP and nothing more. Take care of yourself and make sure you get plenty of rest. No getting stressed! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hoping it's ok. Keep rested hun.
Like my mum always says to me
"lie down with your feet up and drink lots of water" - needless to say after the umpteen time it does get a little annoying |

I'm Currently Feeling: | It isn't that high, hopefully it was just one of those off days, and not a sign of PE |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Optimal is what, 120/80? That's not too bad, I think. Make sure to get lots of rest and mild exercise. If you want to eat some dark chocolate, 30 calories a day has been shown to lower blood pressure without the effect of added weight gain. Some other foods that aid in lowering blood pressure naturally are skim milk, spinach, unsalted sunflower seeds, beans, bananas, and edamame.
The chocolate sounds the best, though. |

Is it the bottom bit that determines the high/low? |

Is it the bottom bit that determines the high/low? | Here's a general idea of the blood pressure values:
Systolic - Diastolic
210 - 120 - Stage 4 High Blood Pressure
180 - 110 - Stage 3 High Blood Pressure
160 - 100 - Stage 2 High Blood Pressure
140 - 90 - Stage 1 High Blood Pressure
140 - 90 - BORDERLINE HIGH
130 - 85 - High Normal
120 - 80 - NORMAL Blood Pressure
110 - 75 - Low Normal
90 - 60 - BORDERLINE LOW
60 - 40 - TOO LOW Blood Pressure
50 - 33 - DANGER Blood Pressure
Generally anything over 120/80 should be addressed, but it's not really a medical worry (meds prescribed to lower) until it's 140/90. Systolic and diastolic (top and bottom) are both important for health, though I think systolic is considered slightly more significant. But your blood pressure can vary throughout the day:
Blood pressure normally varies throughout the day, often by 40 points or more. Exercise and stress are especially likely to increase it, while relaxation and sleep will usually lower it. Standing up or talking, for example, can increase blood pressure by 10 or more points. Even simply worrying about blood pressure will increase it. If your blood pressure is only high when you're exercising or when you're at the doctor's office, that's okay. But if it's high even part of the time in routine situations, that is abnormal and deserves treatment. |
