Oh Ria im sorry you are feeling so worried. I havent had my anomoly scan yet but my sister had markers with my neice. 5 overall I think. She was told by the sonographer to go away and think about having an abortion at 22 weeks! Charlie was born absolutly fine (apart from thr 14 year old attitude from hell!) and my sister says she really regrets wasting so much of her pregnancy worrying. I know its hard but try to stay positive, chances are everything is fine xxxx

i hope you are okay now and looking at all the positives (which i am sure you are).

in terms of age, i know a girl who is only 20 and she had a little downs syndrome girl at 18. it is true older mothers are more likely to get downs babies but there are cases of very young mums conceiving a downs baby. her daughter is just adorable - really playful and full of mischief. i love playing with her!

i hope everything turns out well for you.

Hi really sorry to hear this. It must have been a shock but you do seem calmer now you know more/ are finding out more.
Remember though that your chances of having a Downs baby are still much much much slimmer than your chance of having a healthy baby!!
I am sure everything will be OK.
And even if things don't go to plan, you both sound devoted to your LO and he will be a very lucky baby indeed.

Hold tight sweetheart.

You and your OH seem to have a handle on things a bit now and your positive realistic approach is inspirational.

All the best hope to you.

me and my partner just had a 20 week scan where we were told that our baby had 2 soft markers one in the kidney and a cyst in the brain.... We froze..... the truly scary possibility of either downs syndrome or Edwards syndrome was forced into our lives.
After being referred to a doctor and receiving the results i have been given knowledge that perhaps should be offered before they scare the hell out of expecting parents
before you let the finding of a soft markers destroy your pregnancy
Let me clarify
1. These are just markers! And in no way suggest that your baby has a problem
2. Cyst in the brain is nothing to worry about... it is not even in the brain, it is in the head and appears in many regular fully grown people with no ill effect
3. The kidney issue is more common in boys and again in isolation has no ill effect
4. Medical science doesn’t know why these markers appear and they can’t be used to diagnose anything, although I believe that they can suggest an increase in risk, but nothing definitive!
I’m not a medical professional and i would suggest you doing your own research, but this is the information that was passed on to me today by a qualified doctor.
I would advise not to stress, know that these markers are not signs of a defect!
With two markers we have now been given the all clear and recovering from the unnecessary stress that was put on us.
Doctors, midwives and medical professionals need to be clear in describing what these markers are! THEY ARE JUST SOFT MARKERS AND NOTHING MORE!!
An anomaly during a scan is going to scare the pants off anyone, but I would urge all expecting parents to try and remain calm, read through the notes that you have been given and arm yourself with enough knowledge to know that just because these markers have shown themselves doesn’t mean that you have a problem.
Good luck

My son had one soft marker show up on his 20 week scan. I know how terrifying it is. My triple test was low for Downs but the doctor said that it was nothing to worry about at all.

I've just seen this thread, and hope everything turns out all right. Just wanted to give you some and support.

We had our 20 week scan last week, and they found fluid in Peanut's kidneys. We were told not to worry, and were scanned again this week (and there's still fluid present). We have another scan booked at 33 weeks, and the consultant told us that even if the fluid is still present, all it means is that they will scan Peanut when he/she is born to see if any antibiotics need to be administered as it means the LO is prone to a kidney infection, but nothing more serious than that - no lasting effects.

Thinking of you.

No, i havent had any of the indicators, but can relate to what you are feeling. out first born gabriel is now 7 and he has been diagnosed with autism at 4 years old. i do worry about this baby having the same problem, and there is no tests or way to know... theresaying gabriel is a lovelly child, he goes to main stream school and has one to one support. We love him to bits and wouldnt have him any other way...
i can relate to the fact that not knowing is so difficult... i am having weekly scans because i caight parvovirus early on the pregnancy, so...
never seem to have it easy. there saying i am trying to keep positive, but i have good and bad days...
please let me know if you need to talk. your OH seems like mine- calm and supportive
all the best, whatever it happen it will be all ok
