I'm Currently Feeling: | Hi Ria, just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear of your anxiety over news from the scan. It sounds like you need to time to process everything. That's the poblem with scans, despite modern technology, they still aren't a perfect tool to predict what's going on inside us with 100% accuracy.... but I know this knowledge will not raise your spirits at the mo.
I totally understand the dilema about whether or not to get further tests and it's such a personal decision.
Sending you all the extra strength you need right now.

| Hi!
I'm sorry about you going through this, but please don't worry! Everything is gonna be OK! I had exactly the same problem with the kidneys at the 20 weeks scan. At first the lady just told me quickly about the situation during the scan, than I had to wait for paperworks and I was quite upset, as I'm not native English and didn't understand 100% what it is exactly. Then I asked the lady again to explain for me and she made me calm, that it's really not a big deal. It's really common, and probably will go by 34 weeks, when I'll have another scan to check. If not, she's just gonna get entibiotics when born and that's all. It's not more serious than that, she won't have any problems with it in her whole life.
Just to make sure I called my Hungarian doctor, as they are more professionals than MWs in the Uk. And he said the same, that it's really common and I have notthing to worry about. My blood test (for Downs. etc) came bak with low chance and that what's count. He explained that it's probably because the babies kidneys sometimes grow a little faster than they should, so that's why there is fluid in there...and it's probably gonna be normal in a few weeks.
I'm going home to Hungary for holiday next Sunday and the first thing is to go for a 4D scan after we landed in the afternoon. I was at the same place at 19weeks last time, the lady is very professional and she didn't see any problems with the kidneys then, I'll particulary ask about that now. I don't think I should worry and neither you do!!!
I hope it helped a little bit...
Good luck! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I'm sorry to hear the news, I wish you all the best and even if the worst comes to be true its not the end of the world you still will end up witha lovely bundle of joy who you will love and who will love you unconditionally big hugs to you and your OH hun. And always remember people do beat the odds my friend was told that when she was in the womb she probably would have some sort of disability she wasnt growing correctly and they said she would have a 95% chance of having a disability of some sort IF she lived, she was born at just over 6 months and weighed 2lb she is now 16 and apart from being very hyper she has not a thing wrong with her. People do beat the odds in spectacular ways |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Im sorry to hear about your news hun...
Even if your baby does have downs, the best thing you can do right now is get all the information you can to prepare, and hope for the best. Because there are so many levels of severity of downs, and there isnt really any way to tell right now about your baby, or even when he is born, because downs is a developmental disorder you will slowly start to (or not) see things as he goes through his first few years of life.
He could be born with nothing, or a mild form or who knows? |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Thanks everyone one of the reasons this site so great is definatly it's members, and it's when things like this happen that you can really appreciate that.
A particularly big thanks to those who have shared their own similar experiences.
We're feeling a lot more positive. And hoping for the best - while making sure we're prepared for the worse.
Given my low levels at the serum risk assessment it seems more likely that these 2 quite common problems are unrelated. And will hopefully fix themselves or if they haven't fixed themselves then at least they have been dected early and hopefully they can do something about them when he's born.
The couple that we know with a Downs baby will only live about 15 minutes (when we move) away so if he does have end up having Downs I will have someone to go to. And having met her little boy it really doesn't feel like the end of the world. |
