I'm Currently Feeling: | Gosh Ria, what an emotional time you must be having. I think we often fear the worst and worry even when there are no signs of anything wrong. The scans these days or so indepth and detailed and pick up so much, but at the same time is inconclusive and doesn't actually give us clear indicators. I hope your little man is ok, he sounds like hes ok otherwise anyway hun which is positive. I know you'll worry till you've got him in your arms and know hes well but try and stay calm and unstressed if possible so you can enjoy the rest of your pregancy. Sending lots of hugs and thinking about you loads.xx |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I'm so sorry that you are having to face this. As the others have said, the chances are in your favour given your blood test results. The 'soft indicators' are soft I think because they can actually have lots of different reasons behind them and would only be considered as a real indicator if they combined with a high risk in your blood test too.
Try not to worry but consider all the possibilities so you are more prepared when you go for your later scan.
And Miss Jacey for you too! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I haven't had any experience with this (but we turned down all of the downs testing). Glad that your consultant was more reassuring than your MW though. I'm sure either way your baby will be absolutely perfect. |

| Hi Ria!
When I'm anxious, I sometimes need as much info as I can get to make me feel better, so I thought I'd offer this - if it's any use.
I have read about another type of testing, called CVS, or chorionic villus sampling, in which they can go in through your cervix with a very thin, soft plastic tube and extract a tiny sample of tissue from the placenta. It will yield the same results as amnio, but it can be done much earlier and does not necessarily need to be done with a gigantic scary needle. One of my sources stated that the cervical method poses far less of a risk for miscarriage, but others have said it's about the same.
It might be worth asking about if it is lower risk, just to give you answers and some peace of mind.
Amnio is much more common, I think, but most pre-natal care should offer this test.
Regardless, you and your partner sound like the type of people who are going to give any child, regardless of its challenges, a wonderful life. The odds are good that everything is just fine. I'm just sorry that you have to go through so much anxiety right now.
Warm thoughts.
