I'm Currently Feeling: | Internal exam Hi gals,
How are you all today?
Went to doc and he heard baby's heartbeat and all's good! Only he says he wants to do an internal exam (as he hasn't done one on me before this pregnancy) to check cervix etc etc.
Is this normal? I'll be over 20 weeks by the time I go back for this and didn't think I'd need anything internal at this stage?
Any thoughts? Anyone else had normal internal checks during second tri or I just a weirdo!

I'm Currently Feeling: | I had an internal at 13 weeks. I don't think its uncommon. I'll probably end up getting on when I go next time cause I'll be around 26 weeks and I think they start checking around then to just make sure everything is okay.Internals aren't painful or anything, I found a pap more uncomfortable to tell you the truth. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Not sure. I've not seen my doctor, only the midwife and they've not done any internal exams. I haven't been told to expect one at my next appointment in 4 weeks. Sorry not to be of much help! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Thanks was just checking it wasn't being unneccessarily invasive or anything...I understand they like to check things but thought these things either happened v early on at beginning or at the end not in the 2nd tri
But maybe it's safer to be monitored...?
Who knows!

I'm Currently Feeling: | I think I would ask why your doc wants to do it then decide if you want to. You can always refuse if you don't want it. |

| I would ask why he wants to do it. Iv had two, but both were done at hospital after i had gone in complaining of pains ect. one at 8weeks to check for an etopic and one again at 20weeks to check cervix was closed as i was having bad pains. But im sure its not routine where i am for them to do internals unless they have a reason. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I had one at around 16w, she also took a swab.
I think that the reason for checking later would be to make sure everything still looks ok and healthy... |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I had one done at 10 weeks. I think it really depends on the area that you are from as to whether or not it's common to have. Here in Canada it's quite normal to have them done during pregnancy. Mine didn't cause any bleeding or problems of any kind. |
