No matter how it's prepared, I cannot take a bite of chicken without gagging. Chicken?!! Why that? No particularly strong smell or taste, no weird texture. No problems with it before the pregnancy. And it's such a good source of protein. But I just can't do it.
Progesterone is a strange strange chemical.
Yet interestingly chicken potentially is one of the most dangerous foods you can eat...when you consider the risk of salmonella (spelling?). Which lends weight to the theory that food aversions are in fact a safety mechanism that guide you away from eating certain types of food. I know with my OH it was shell food. Now i know you are not supposed to eat it anyway, but she couldnt even think about clams or prawns without gagging.

Ah but did you know that rice is the biggest cause of food poisoning in the world?

I'm off allsorts of irrational things. I was worried I might crave meat (I'm veggie) but I have an even greater aversion to it than ever!

Hmm thats interesting, but is that because its the staple diet of China and India which have the two largest populations in the world? Or because rice in its native state is prone to carrying bacteria?

I think a lot of the former and some of rice being very bacteria friendly after it's cooked. Ever left some rice in the bottom of a pan for more than a day? Goes all pink and poisonous! Always reheat your rice thoroughly!

Hmmm. Some ancient fetal protection instinct kicking in?
Very good theory.
However, I am dying for some sushi. I go for the veggie kind to try to tame the craving, but it's just not the same.
Shouldn't I feel even more gaggy around raw fish?
Or maybe it's the rice I should really be worried about!

I'm hiding this post from my OH. She'd be horrified to think she still might sick at 19 weeks lol. Her sickness returned last night full swing. She looked at me as if to say "I thought you said it was over" LOL poor girl.

Hi I was still vomitting at 15weeks and a half. It then suddenly stopped and overnight I could eat all my old faves again that I'd hated for the first three months - namely chicken!!
I still very very occasionally get nausea but never vomit - touch wood!
And in the last two weeks I have felt hungry all the time and can't stop gorging... it could just be that she is in the cross over zone between the sickness and then feeling better.
It'll happen! And then you'll be being sent out at all hours to get all manner of foods... so enjoy the lull haha!
xx
