| I'm going to be a little controversial here, and say exactly what I feel...
I am a little shocked at the amount of pregnancy policing going on in this thread, combined with a definite 'I'm a saint, I am' tinge through some of the responses.
My father is a 30+ year experienced OB/Gyn, Fertility Specialist AND Fetal Surgeon, and he acknowledges that there is no visible consensus on the effects of small amounts of drinking (ie 4-5 units a week) year to year, let alone between experts, studies, journals, etc. Sure, people can use Google on here, and you will find studies to back up whatever conclusion you have come to.
Surely judging from the continual threads about the pregnancy police we encounter on a day-to-day basis, we can all just reel it in a bit, and live and let live with one another? No one here is talking about drinking like Sue Ellen on Dallas. |

Polo did ask what we thought about having a drink in 2nd trimester, it's not like people just imposed their 'policing' on to her. Also no-one has looked up anything on Google as far as I can tell. If you mean my post I had a look through the most recent scientific papers this year to see if there was anything of interest and you'll see in my post that there are points either way demonstrating that there isn't conclusive evidence about light drinking.
I do get what you mean about people being judgemental on topics like these but we post our thoughts to share them and I don't see that people who feel strongly one way or the other ought not share their opinions. If I was concerned about what people might say about anything I was or wasn't doing then I'd just not post about it. I think these threads also often lead to a lot of information sharing some of which might be new to at least one person so they can be helpful. |

| For the first 4 weeks of my pregnacy i was drunk as a skunk as it was over the xmas new year period! Once i found out i quit smokin and said i wouldnt go near a drop of booze but now and again if im out with the ladies i will have one or two alcoholic drinks no more than 3 units. I think its fine to drink aslong as we dont go over 4 units a week and never get drunk. I havent had a drink in months just because i havent felt like it but i say go ahead after all years ago people still drank and smoked and gave birth to perfectly healthy babies |

I'm Currently Feeling: | i know i'm gona get some pretty nasty comments with this one, but i have to say i've done my fair share of drinking whilst being pregnant. Not loads and i've not been paraletic. but considering before i got pregnant i would think nothing of drinking two bottles (atleast) of wine a night or a bottle of gin, i think i'm not doin too bad. yes i know alcohol's not good for my baby, but neither is half the stuff i breathe in on a daily basis.
Years ago people used to go out and get roaring drunk when they were pregnant, eat what they wanted and smoke like chimnies and it didnt harm their babies.
*waits for the comments to role in about bein a heartless, selfish parent* |
