I'm Currently Feeling: | Wow a very long thread with lots of interesting points!
I haven't had anything to drink since I found out about baby at 5 weeks even in the first five weeks I hadn't been out and got wasted, I'd just had an occasional drink now and again. Since finding out I decided that if I had to drink in moderation I would avoid it! (I mainly only drink Jack Daniels, I don't like wine) So far it's been easy not to drink! Although we went on holiday when I was 12 weeks and our room had optics in the wardrobe for you to help yourself to!! It was an all inclusive holiday and ususally I get my monies worth from the drink, this time I got my monies worth from the food!!
It's the stop smoking tablets that I had been taking for 2 months before I got pregnant and stopped taking them at 5 weeks that I was most worried about, I have been informed that everything should be ok and all scans and tests haven't shown anything wrong. I have managed to stay off the fags since stopping the tablets with no problems I think my OH would seriously never forgive me if he thought I was being selfish and still smoking and I couldn't do that to him or LO!
Sorry for my ramble on - baby brain you know.... |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I think that if we had to listen to every single thing that we can't do while we're pregnant, we'd have to lock ourselves in a room and rock back and forth on the floor! I've eaten things I probably shouldn't have while being pregnant (peanuts and Mac sauce from McDonalds being just two). And I would probably have a glass of wine as well if I hadn't read the fact about the baby feeling it 4xs as worse. I've been absolutely pining away for a glass of red wine. I just personally can't picture my baby floating around in there buzzed up because I wanted a glass of wine.
But, my point. I believe everything is okay in moderation. If we had to listen to the pregnancy "gods" who set out all of these rules, we wouldn't be able to function correctly in society for 9 months and while we were breast feeding. |

I've said that I want a small bottle of JD, can of Diet Coke and a lime at the birth and that after I get out of hospital I'm off for meal which will consist of Prawn Cocktail starter, followed by a medium rare steak! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | my midwife told me no more than 4 units a week is fine which is like 4 small glasses of wine, i drank a small about in the first trimester but never over the 4 units, theres been a number of occasions when iv bought a bottle of smirnoff at a party or in the pub with friends drank a few mouthfulls then felt guilty so left if! I think if i had even one glass of wine now its been so long i'd fall down drunk i wouldnt like to imagen what that does to poor baby! |

Its fine to have the odd glass , for gods sake back in the day women were encouraged to have some red wine when pregnant ( i cant remember what for)
Aslong as you dont get of your head ( obviously ) then it wont hurt. Theres women that go around getting wasted and there pregnant every weekend( read it in the mag) and there children came out fine and there were bunches of these women. Its some sort of 'group' so they say.
But anywho a glass every so often really wont do anything
Hope you enjoyed your drink ! |
I really agree!! Comments Ive heard about "You wouldnt put wine in a babys bottle.... "!! No granted I wouldnt!! But i wouldnt put cherryade in it either!!
My friend went 20 weeks until finding out she was preg!! After a 2 week MAJOR binge in Zante.. Good times
Shots... cigarettes.... hardcore BINGE drinking!!
And her baby is perfectly healthy!!
Obviously I dont condone this behaviour but she didnt know!!
I really dont drink ... like others said... only drink to get drunk... but I have had a few!!
My mum told me she was drinking a vodka when are waters broke with me!!! Im healthy as can be |

I'm sure if you asked older relatives they would say they would have a whisky before bed every night or something! If we were to eat mayo or drink a glass of wine it wouldn't make a major difference as long as it's in moderation of course! I think that scientists have only really got an idea of what could happen if we eat/drink certain things and so in a bid to cover their backs they just tell us to avoid it. Although I haven't drank since I found out I was pregnant I didn't know till I was over a month gone and, being a student in that time frame, I did go out a few times and drink an excessive amount and my baby is perfectly healthy. |

| i dont think its a big sacrifice to put your baby as your priority for 9 months whilst you are soley responsable as the carrier. Why do we all give up dangerous sports dont go on rides, eat and drink as the books say, dont lift heavy objects worry our trousers are too tight on our bumps etc. Personally I have some self control and if the baby came out with a problem I would always blame myself that it could have been my drinking of the odd glass of wine or stilton that could have contributed to it research or no reaserch.
Its conflicting that people come on here with worries about all sorts of niggles then are happy to sit back and drink. | | | | Status: Offline
