Tablets

i just wondered if everyone is still taking there tablets e.g folic acid.
Also i have been put on iron tablets, but i have always been anemic, would it be dangerous for the baby if i do not take them? because every time i take them, i feel really ill.

I'm still taking my prenatal vitamin, 2 calcium pills, and an iron tablet.

Unfortunately it is unsafe for baby if you stop taking your iron pills, especially later in second tri as the babies red blood cell count rapidly increases. If your iron levels are low, the baby could become anemic. My pharmacist recommended taking them with food (they are much harsher on your stomach if you don't eat something when you take them), also try to take them with a source of Vitamin C (I drink OJ or grape juice with mine) as it helps the body absorb the iron better. Avoid taking the iron pills with any kind of calcium (don't drink/eat dairy products for up to two hours before and two hours after taking the iron--the calcium and iron bind together and your body won't absorb the iron). Also try to keep your diet high in fiber to help alleviate any constipation.

I'm still taking my daily dose of pregnacare and i'll continue to do so after i've given birth and it says to be taken during breastfeeding too.

I'd speak to your midwife about your iron tablets making you ill.. she might be able to suggest something, maybe.

I'm on pregaday which is Iron and folic acid but I get awful headaches when I take them. Do pregnacare have enough Iron in them to replace the Iron supplements prescribed as I had no problem with this in 1st tri??

i've no idea what your supplements are but pregancare iron levels measure at 17mg per tab 121% of your rda accordin to the box
