Forum - 14 > 26 weeks – The morning sickness has gone and the bump is growing. Talk to others and seek advice from maternity wear to what to expect over the coming weeks. This thread is called '
So I work as a store manager in a boring store in West Edmonton Mall, one of the biggest malls in the world, and I basically just stand in one spot all day and talk to tourists and old people. Sometimes I pace up and down, lol.
I was planning on working till the end of August. I am due the end of September. I was reading my What to Expect book and it says if you have a job where you stand for more then 4 hours a day or something like that, that you should leave work at 28 weeks.
I was wondering if anyone else stands for a job, and when they were taking their leave?
I do other jobs, such as changing store displays and putting away stock, etc. But the main thing is I am required to stand for 8 hours in a row, with a half hour sit down in the middle. I have noticed my legs and feet hurting quite a bit more then usual.
I'm wondering if I should give in my 6 week notice now, and work till the beginning of August.
I would love to finish work early but due to being unable to afford to, im staying til 38 weeks !!! argh
I would have thought your work would have to accomodate you and allow you more breaks and sitting down jobs. Have you asked if this is possible?
You dont want to leave early to have to go back earlier and miss out on time with your LO.
Let me know how you get on? xxx
I work in a shop and I am required to stand for long periods of time. I have a booklet that I got in my bounty pack which gives details on what you are entitled to. Mine says that you are entitled to more breaks if you need them and if you change your mind about when you want to take your maternity leave you have to give 28 days notice in writing. If you can be provided with a chair then do so. The law is on your side hun. Theres also numbers you can ring if your employer gives you grief or they advice you to get a letter from your GP or midwife if you feel you are not being treated fairly. x
i've been askin for easier jobs since i was 11 weeks. Am still doin same things though! It's like talkin to a brick bloomin wall!!
Thats terrible, i must to so lucky to work where i am. I had a full health and safety and risk assesment done. Best thing to come out of it was , they decided that me making cups of tea was dangerous, in case i fell !! Woo hoo ! no more brewing up for me !!!
Hiya, I work 12 hour shifts with 30 minutes off inbetween, and most of it is standing but my work have provided a chair for me to sit down whenever I need to so I take wee 5 minute breaks now and again but I think they have to do that by law in the UK.
So I will be finishing work at 36 weeks all going well! It means I can have more time off afterwards with my LO
i'm working til 34weeks but i have a sit down job, if i had a standing job i would have had to leave by now cause i cant stand up for long time since i hit 27weeks, so u might have to leave early if u cant cope but see how you feel

well the issue i have with work really is that it seems to be, because i only work part time they kinda cast me aside. Like i don't really matter. No health and safety assesment has been carried out for me as far as i'm aware anyway. I have to ask people at work to do stuff for me which, whilst they understand, i always feel really bad about. When i asked about maternit yleave he tried to fob me off telling me i was entitled to as long off because i worked p time which i'm pretty sure is not true!
I probably can get a chair for when I work evening shifts, because there wont be as many customers around. I will have to talk to my boss today. I haven't been on the ladder or lifting things. (Ok well sometimes I do, but its my own stupidity, no one has made me)
