I'm Currently Feeling: | High HCG - Worried :( Hi ladies,
I just got back from the dr, who told me I have higher than normal HCG levels. I'm a little worried because I've never been told this before
I know that high HCG can mean twins... and I do have a predisposition of conceiving twins, but I've already had an ultrasound and there was clearly only one baby, and I've heard the heartbeat twice.. both times only one.
I was told that it can also be a sign of down's syndrome, so now I'm really worried Has anyone else had any similar experiences.. anything.. just to put my mind at rest?? |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Could be twins, and they missed one... Or it could be that you aren't as far gone as thought... as the numbers double every 48 hours... it could make a huge difference even just being 6 days or so out..... |

I found out I was pregnant while I was on birth control.. the depo shot. I didn't conceive on the shot, I must have conceived literally one or two days before getting it, because I didn't show positive on the test they took before giving me the shot. So I know the dates are accurate.
So I don't know |

I don't know about the triple test, my doc mentioned that, or an amniocentesis.. but I really don't know- my head's a shed at the minute, I can't think about anything |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hi,
Sorry you're having so much worry hun, could you go back and ask the Dr for more info?
From my memory, high HcG can mean wrong dates, twins, molar pregnancy (discounted if you've heard the heartbeat) or just differences between people, some produc more than others. If the test is for beta-hCG, then a high level may indicate an increased risk of Downs so you should be offered further tests to quantify the risk - have you had a nuchal scan or the triple/quadruple scan?
Really hope everything turns out to be fine, hopefully the others are right and you're just a very productive person! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Thanks dizzle...
I have been offered more tests, the triple test and an amniocentesis.. but i don't know if I'd want to do them, it's a lot to try and process. i go back on monday for another hCG reading, and then the monday after I have a ultrasound, so I guess the doc wants to see how they go and then we'll go from there. Doc told me not to worry, but when he mentioned it can indicate a higher risk of down's how am i supposed to not worry? the dates are definitely right, and its definitely not a molar pregnancy, because we know there is a live and kicking baby in there. it just leaves twins or downs... or just an unexplanable high production.. i'm hoping for the latter. I have conceived twins no less than 3 times, so my doc isn't ruling that out but I'm certain there's only one baby. I guess I just need to wait and see.. |
