Is This Safe?

OK, so the in-laws are coming to town in a couple of weeks and I am seriously pressed to think of family friendly things we can all do while they're here (I am not so good at playing hostess, because I'm lazy and spend most of my nights vegging and watching TV).

The weather has been really hot lately, and there's a waterpark about a half an hour from our place that I was thinking of taking them to. I guess my question is -- how safe are waterslides? I obviously would avoid the ones with the straight-down drop... but can I safely go on the slower, twistier slides? Or the ones where you ride on an inner tube? I'm so confused!

The whole thing sounds silly, but I don't want to do anything that could harm the bean. I know that rollercoasters are a no-no, but waterslides...? Does anyone know anything about this?

Ooooh Im not sure!!! Most rides tell you whether you can and cant ride on a sign before you get on!!! So maybe check with them at the park!!

Maybe just the lazy river

Ps: which park is it.... I went to florida in november!!! x

It's a park called Big Kahuna's, located out in Destin (in NW Florida, the panhandle region). Not sure if you'll have visited, 'cause it's not one of the big places like Tampa or Orlando, but it's still got those really pretty white sand beaches.

I guess I could deal with the lazy river if it came to that... but waah, I want to ride the fun slides! I'll probably just have to chalk it up to another thing I'm going to do once the baby's here (along with eat a cold deli sandwich, have a stiff drink, and ride some dangerous wooden rollercoasters that really jerk the hell out of my spine).

You know, for all the worrying we do, it's so funny to me to hear about women that don't even know they're pregnant until the baby is crowning. You have to wonder how often they did things on the 'no no' list, like eat soft cheese or ride rollercoasters, and end up having perfectly healthy babies. I know they're banned for a reason, but part of me thinks that it's just a scam thought up by the doctors. Or maybe that's just the pouty part of me talking (the part that wants to enjoy the rides!).

I'm not sure myself but I doubt that I'd do it unless I'd talked to my doctor first.

And you are so right about all the worrying!

Yeah, I have an appointment next week for a routine check-up and I can ask then... but was hoping maybe somebody could give me a head's up. Lol, I'm impatient!

That's what I've been thinking too. On the first month of my pregnancy ( not knowing yet) I went up to a 4000 meter glacier where the temp was around - 20 Celsius , had really bad and nasty ski falls ( I hit my bum on one and hit my head too) and ate unpasteurized local soft cheese, pate, undercooked stakes, local deli meats not to mention I drank and smoked every day.....I almost faint thinking about it now that all these are no, no's.

Wander if this is a doc scam too

It's hard to find any info about this on the internet. Some people say defintely not at all, and others say that some gentle rides are fine. I think that you're best off to call the water park direct and ask what their policy is on allowing pregnant women to ride.
That last sentence sounded a bit dodgy didn't it? OOps!
xx

Most places put warnings on waterslides and rollercoasters and other rides just to save their own skins truthfully. Many OB's will agree that some of the more tame rides are fine during pregnancy and yet the amusement park or water park still has warning signs on them. It's mainly to avoid a lawsuit! Check with your OB for sure!!
