| We have loads of gallbladder issues in my family. Both my Gran and my Mum had theirs out and mine is really dodgy. I do eat quite a bit of fat though, but I think depends on the type - animal fats are harder to digest (I'm veggie so there's only dairy that I come into contact with). I can't eat hard cheeses especially if they're cooked, without being really ill. If you have cheese go for soft crumbly cheeses like Cheshire, Lancashire etc. Also eating things that are fatty in the morning and not later in the day - my Mum always saved her puddings for breakfast! Also having a bit of alcohol with a meal helps because it emulsifies fat. But that's a pregnancy no-no of course!
Also, you can do a gallbladder flush which can help. You're supposed to take epson (epsom?) salts which clear the gut, then drink a miz of 3 teaspoons of olive oil and the same of grapefruit juice. This makes the gallbladder contract and expel the contents helping to reduce blockages and inflammation. Now I don't know whether the salts are ok for pregnancy so if you go this route make sure you check with the pharmacist! Plus, I don't know for sure whether this is inadvisable is you actally have gallstones. If they're small they'll pass and that is pretty painful (maybe that was your pain?) while they come through the small tubes. The flush would be ok in that case, but if there were large ones too big to move through then the flush might be painful. Maybe chat to your Doc about it if you get pain again? |
