I know the feeling... It just adds to the difficulty of choosing a name doesn't it! It is so hard as you just can't help ruling out some names, even though they are great!!!

Yes, I am a teacher too - I have ruled out most of the J names - eg Jake, Jay, Jack, Josh - there are too many nutty teenagers who bear these names. I have only just started thinking about names. My partner is Muslim and I am Catholic - we are searching for names to fit both eg Samir/Sam. Does anybody have any ideas?

What are your 'ruled out' names?

A few of mine are:

* Dean
* Shaun
* Natasha (especially when known as 'Tasha')
* Ashleigh

(no offence if any of you have decided to call your baby these names - they are nice names in themselves - but if you have taught five Deans, who have all been cheeky ones, you quickly develop an allergy to the name!!)

My OH is called DEAN lol and you're so right!

I work in a school aswell and its so true how you associate names with nightmare children. With my son all the names my OH liked i knew a horrid child which put me off. We finally decided on KIAN for our son as i'd looked after a lovely boy called this. We have no ideas at all for this one though! I've also got the added problem that my MIL breeds dogs and has had hundreds over the years so she has used nearly every name i like for a dog.

I bet it would be doubly hard to choose a name if you work in a school.

It's funny how one thinks of a name and then remembers some child or school classmate and think, No way in hell!

Another thing I find is people calling their dogs certain names too puts you off. For example I love the name Poppy but a very good friend of ours has a dog called Poppy. Oh and Max - I love that name but I just think of dogs called it!!! Thats why my dogs have ridiculous names!!

this made me laugh! James my OH came in the other day and said he'd been thinking of a name all day and he thinks 'poppy' is nice! I agree....very sweet! although now every dog we seem to meet in the park is called poppy!!
