I'm Currently Feeling: | Maternal Instincts... ...for baby mice? Well my Fiance found a mouse nest in the closet, actually it more or less fell on him. He was trying to get a blanket out and out pop these 3 baby deer mice. He just had to yell "baby mice" so I ran over, and he had the cat in is arms! I scooped up 2 of them but he was yelling at me to put them down, that they could be diseased and whatnot so I lost track of the 3rd one. So was just standing there with them in my hand sobbing. They are so adorable, just curling up in my hand trying to keep warm. Their eyes are still closed but they have fur, and are crawling around. I don't know what to do, they're so helpless and I can't just let the cat have at them, but what should I do? They do have good tempers (did research) and lots of people try to hand raise abandoned baby mice, and since we disturbed the nest and touched the baby's we can't leave them for the mom to find, all I want to do is try to save them and take care of them. I just don't know what to do! | | | | Status: Offline

| maybe you should take them to the vet before decideding to keep them, just to get them checked out to make sure that they dont have anything for you to catch

I'm Currently Feeling: | Same, you should get them a cage, but whatever you do MAKE SURE you buy hand sanitizer to clean your hands everytime you touch them.. and you should try to find the other little mouse, he might be hurt or something. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Yeah that's most likely what I'll do, if I can convince my fiance to keep them. I have to go to work, so maybe he'll get what they need while I'm gone. | | | | Status: Offline

| Aww the chances of you being able to rear them yourself is quite slim. I've had enough experience with rodents to know this. They have always died on me
I'd say the best thing would be to leave the nest there and don't disturb it anymore. Sometimes the mother will take them back sometimes not. Unfortunately it's nature and there's not much you can do about it.
The cat may be a problem. Is there a way you can keep it away? Strange how the mother would give birth to babies with such a potential threat around. They pick up the smell of a predator very easily. | | | | Status: Offline
