Massage

I've had a pain in my neck ( other that my hubby....) for a few days. It starts at the back of my head at the bottom of my skull and works its way down to my right shoulder blade. It gets worse as the day progresses and last night while we were having tea it was very painfull to the point of making me wince.

So I thought I'd treat myself to a really luxuriant massage at a health spa near here. I rang them up and when I told her I might not ba able to lay on my tummy as I'm preggy she asked a few more questions and advised me against it and recommended I see their osteopath instead.

I wanted serious pampering not a medical consultation!!! Anyway I've mentioned it to my Mum and a few others and they all said that I need to talk to my M/W as massages aren't advisable in pregnancy.

I've spoken to the osteopath and have an appointment with him monday - he has run expectant mum's clinics and seemed to know what he was talking about but I didnt establish ( coz I forgot to ask...) exactly why a preggy lady shouldnt have a regular massage.....anyone know????

Sounds strange that a pregnant woman can't have a massage. I understand not being able to lie on your stomach but other than that, strange! I'd like to know the reasonings too.

Hope you feel better soon!

Yeah, but don't they have those beds with a big hole in the middle?Like for the face but bigger.
I saw those at when I get a massagge...Not only for pregnant women but also for overweight...

I have no idea, this is the first I'm hearing about it.I thought a nice relaxing time can be good especiall with such stress on the back...

Hey - I just found this.....this place is about 10 mins from me...

http://www.waterfallspa.co.uk/treatments-mum-to-be.php

So it must be ok if they have a specialist set of treatments. I read the customer view on one of the treatments and the person said she struggled to find a place that would massage her during pregnancy...whats it all about???

My mum trained in massage as a hobbie she has told me that you cant have a message because it stimulates your whole body and this is not advised due to the increase in blood flow. And if you have something underlying it can trigger it. You can however have pregnancy massage because they are much gentler. Hope this helps xxx

I haven't been but my local salon does a Mama Massage package catering for pregnant women and women who have recently given birth. Maybe the girls at your salon were not trained for working with pregnant women and they felt nervous about it.

I get the oesteopath for neck strain linked to migraines. My oestopath is brilliant and you don't have to lie on your stomach either. Possibly your neck strain is linked to your changing posture now you are pregnant. As you are probably leaning forward more.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Poppy. They must be trained because I found this package on their site:

http://www.eastthorpe.co.uk/packages...s#expectations

I wonder if it was when I described the pain I was having that she thought I'd be better with the osteopath?? You are probably right though about my posture changing - I noticed when I get into bed I have an arch now at the small of my back where I used to lay flat to the matress.
