I'm Currently Feeling: | Generally, with a C-section, they give you an epidural so that you cannot feel the actual procedure. From your waist down, it will be numb. I was awake through mine and it did not hurt. They also put a curtain up so that if you don't want to see the procedure being done, you don't have to. When I got mine done there was a mirror so that if I wanted to watch I could. I didn't want to!
There are elective C-section but many doctors will not do it unless you truly need to have it done.
Why, are you thinking of having an elective C-section? If so, why? |

I'm Currently Feeling: | If you are not good with pain, do you think you'd be good with the pain that you go through after a C-section? Trust me, natural birth, if you can, is better especially for the weeks after. Recovery time is quicker with a natural birth.
Leave the C-section.
I am for C-sections if one cannot have one naturally or if there are other health risks. But if you can, do it naturally! And right now, you don't know!
I think every pregnant woman is scared of labour but women for generations have done it and have got through the pain. You can do it. |

| Ohhhh you poor thing, really try not to stress people have been doing this since the beginning of time!
If you really are worried about the pain then you have a few choices. Speak to your midwife about your concerns and look a bit more into pain relief ie epidurals. They arent for everyone but if you want to be pretty much pain free its probably the way to go.
WHy not think about hypnobirthing. its sounds very new agey (i hate that term) but basically just teaches you to view the birth in a more positive light. It will be alot less painful if you are relaxed!
It may be that you are just having a panic so why not try not thinking about it at all for a while and reassess how you feel at your next midwifes appointment. Hope you feel better soon! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Another note, if you told your doctor that you wanted a C-section because you were afraid of the pain of natural birth, I seriously doubt he/she would grant you one.
I also give you this advice above as I've had two children and have one on the way. My first was delivered via an emergency C-section after two days of induction hell. The pain was awful for weeks after - almost 5 weeks.
My second was planned and the recovery was far quicker, but there is still pain for a few weeks after.
I am expecting again and he will be delivered via planned C-section as well. I expect the recovery to be as quick as my second.
Many women who have had C-sections feel less than a woman after and feel guilty that they did not deliver naturally. I never felt this way as I knew there was a damn good reason why I had to have C-sections done and I was just happy that my babies were healthy.
However, that is me but other women feel differently. |

| I think giving birth scares every woman at some point. It's a pretty big thing to go through. It's natural to be a bit anxious about it.
Here they'd allow it. If I went to my gynae and told him I want a C-Section because I'm terrified of natural birth it would be done. Guaranteed. They'd also put me under general aneasetic (spl?) if I didn't want an epidural. It's more convenient for them. But that's here. Not all countries are like that.
If you're afraid of the pain and think you wont cope then keep the option for an epidural open. You dont go and have a tooth pulled out without pain relief so why go through child birth without. I'm keeping my options open because I don't know how I'll handle it. I've read that labour pain isn't like other pain that leaves you feeling helpless and afraid. It actually tells you what to do and your body takes over. It's a constructive pain! lol I dunno how true this is but I'm sure some moms here could have whether it's true or not? | | | | Status: Offline

| If you google hypnobirthing there will be somewhere near you. Hypnobirthing is a tradename though, created by one specific practictioner so any birthing hypnoisis will be useful. Look for reviews of practitioners before you go. Im sure there are books and cds as well but my OH and I are going to a set of 3 classes instead of antenatal classes.
Just so you know its highly unlikely they would do an elective c-section onthe NHS so you would have to pay anyway. |
