Question

Antenatal classes - time off work?

Hey girlies,

Hope your all well.

Is it right that you are allowed paid time off work to attend antenatal classes? I know you do for midwife apts and scans, but I've read it somewhere, but can't remember where - if anyone could tell me yes and then direct me to the info (so that I have evidence to present to my employer, if need be!), I would be mucho grateful!

I *think* thats right!!

Quote:
The right to paid time off work for anti-natal care.
The right to take action for unfair dismisal, if dismissed because of being pregent.
The right to at least 18 weeks maternity leave, rising to 40 weeks (after working for your employer for over 1 year).
The right to return to work, after returning from maternity leave.
The right to work in a safe environment
Think anti natal care includes classes etc! Sure someone will tell us otherwise!

Yep as long as the request is reasonable. Can include yoga classes etc as well if recommended by your midwife.

Yep! I read that as well. You are allowed to take reasonable time off for ante-natal classes. You might have to show your employers the details/appointment card though.

My company policy is pretty standard and they allowed reasonable time of for midwife, hospital and antenatal appointment to which we are paid for.

You should be paid for this time hun.... check it out.

See if you can download some regulations on the computer. You are definately entitled to be paid for your midwife appointments and scans (you may be asked to show appointment cards) and reasonable time off for antenatal appointments. Your employer is definately getting away with too much. If you have gone for appointments already, they probably owe you money.

Good luck!

Im pretty sure Im owed money but really dont know the best way to go about it.... I might be a coward and write them a letter just before Im due to leave lol!!! I have wrote down all the days of my appointments and hours that are lost... so I have it all recorded!!!
On scan days and I had a hospital date too I made sure I was off so they worked around me... ( I cant be fairer than that)!! But on 2 occasions.... definetly last week I lost 3 hours... as someone had to come in earlier to cover me!!
My company hasnt done a risk assessment either!!! cant wait to leave.... 8 weeks and counting

Hi Hun, even without a contract if you have worked for them more than 3 months thats a contract itself. So i wouldn't let them get away with it,....i know they dont have to pay you for everyday appointments. But non-routine and midwife ect they do..im almost 100% sure on that...My employers do and for my scan's..and will when i have my classes they will to...but i have to go to work before and after these they wont let me have the whole morning off lol xxx
