A little bit scary amnio results today

Hello everyone-

I had my amnio today and it was a mixed experience. My suspicions were correct in that it is a boy, and it was very cute that he kept waving and trying to grab the needle, which made the doctor have to move the needle about in my abdomen. Ouch! Naughty thing!

However, he has a blockage in his right kidney. They don't know if it is blood or wee and I will have to do several follow-up scans. They said worst case scenario he will have to be on antibiotics for a few weeks after he is born. Okay, that is fine, but two things worry me- I don't want him to be in pain, especially pain that gets worse as he gets older in utero, and what if this is a condition that usually accompanies something more serious?

It's not that I am freaking out or anything- I am keeping as calm as possible, but as it is my first, I am going to be a little bit neurotic.

Has anyone else gone through this or is currently going through this? Any advice or experience shared would be great.

Thanks everyone!

Amanda

I havent any experience of this and while the worse case scenario doesnt sound too scary, I think its quite normal for you to be a bit anxious.

I'm sure they have dealt with this many times so now they've spotted it they'll be on the case and he'll be getting lots of extra attention.

Congrats on your little boy - even with the little complication, you must be thrilled!

Oh poor little boy...

I don't know if anyone's gonna through this and I can't offer you some actual advice, but I want to say that the doctor's are keeping a close eye and will make sure that everything goes smothly...
I'm sure this isn't their first case and they know how to handle it.
Keep your worries on the minimum(I know thats impossible to be completely worriless).

I know this problem can clear up on its own. Also, in my experience, doctors always give you the worse case scenario, so there is no point at all in worrying about it being worse than they said!

Hope everything turns out ok!
