I had a very sharp pain last night when getting out of bed. It felt like a cramp but it was at the side of my abdomen and it traveled right to my pubic bone. It was very, very painful and lasted for 5 minutes as I couldn't move.

Today I feel a bit numb around that area but I try not to worry although I'm starting to freak out a little. I mean the pain was...

Is it the same thing? Should I contact my doctor ?

That sounds exacty like round ligament pain. It's really common, epecially round your time. It's a sign that the uterus is stretching. They are very sharp sudden pains that happen upon sudden movement or chage of position. The pain should fade to nothing though. If it doesn't then pop down nd see the mw.

braxton hicks don't usually hurt. If they are painful, it could be real contractions, or you are feeling ligament pain as Ann-Marie said.
