In need of help with ......

Chinese recipes!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry, not really about being pregnant .... well it is .... got cravings for Ben and Jerry's and seeing as I can't get it here, then my cravings have gone onto Chinese food!!!! One problem, all the recipes I try turn out awful!!!!!

Just cooked a recipe from a book, followed everything correctly but it tasted like plastic!!!!!! Bloody awful!!!

I can get beansprouts, noodles, obviously rice, coconut milk and cream, oyster sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce.

Can't get sesame oil, peanut oil, 5 spice powder and a few others.

Can anyone tell me a good website that has good and proven to work recipes pleeeeeaaaaaasssee????? Even if it is a recipe you use all the time, I would so appreciate it.

I find adding a good splash of soy sauce, a tsp of chilli powder and some tomato puree gives anything a yummy, spicy oriental taste.

I do a nice stir fry with chicken, spring onions, garlic, mushrooms, pack choi, peppers and some straight to wok noodles - mmmm yummy!

Hope this helps

I have been craving really good Chinese food as well, but haven't been energetic enough to actually make it myself.

Ok my fav is chilli n ginger chicken stir fry

Fry some fresh grinded chillies with some grinded ginger
Then add some chicken cut into thin pieces
once that looks almost done-I add the stir fry mix which includes (cabbage, onions, peppers & beansprouts)
Then I add some noodles and add loads of soya sauce!!

All we do to make a chinese style stir fry is get some veg, beansprouts, n whatever else u wanna chuck in there chicken etc fry them in the wok. Stick some noodles/rice in a pan to boil. Sauce, we use anythin lol normally, soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce and water, and a dash of pepper sauce. If you've done noodles, once they cooked, throw them in the wok with the veg and then pour on the sauce. Heat thouroghly n whallaa *spelling*

Thanks girls, sorry didn't back to you all earlier.

The recipe I used had, if memory serves, ginger, corriander, garlic, a little paprika, soy sauce ........ oh what else?????? ........ beansprouts, it smelt beautiful, but tasted awful.

I just wanted something simple like a chicken chow mein ........ a good chicken fried rice like my local chippy back in the UK makes but yet to find a recipe that comes near, salt and pepper ribs (again like the chippy), I can make a mean garlic chicken but it's fussy and not a stir fry. The problem is that we can't get the sauces or mixes. Some supermarkets have just started stocking Indian food.

I guess the simple thing to do is give my mum a list of things to bring, but it would just be nice to throw some yummy things in a wok and for it to come out right!!!!!!!!! Do I ask too much???!!

Anyone know a recipe for simple chicken stir fry which includes oyster sauce please??

I am going to print out everything you've told me and ..... although will leave it for a short time, got to recover from the last lot! ....... will try them out.

Thanks again

Have you tried the recipe exchange area of the forum http://www.babyandbump.com/recipe-exchange/

You'd think I'd have a decent Chinese food recipe since my husband is Chinese But I don't
