Irritable Uterus?

I've been having Braxton Hicks for about 3 weeks now (that i have noticed anyway) and now they have started to come everytime I move at night, when I cough, when I walk, when she kicks, all the time! I've been to the Labour Ward at the hospital twice and they have said that there is no change in the cervix so 'it is just Braxton Hicks'! I can't take this though - I'm so stressed out! Sometimes I get attacks of them that come way more than the warned '4-6 per hour then call your mw', but they are not regular the rest of the time. I had 4 on my 45 min bus ride to work and that is not a bumpy journey! Looking on the web, I've read up a lot about Irritable Uterus as a condition. It has been mentioned that this is probably what I have by m/w, but others on the web seem to get given medication and put on bed rest. Does anyone know anything or have any experience of this???

It seems to be one of those conditions that some Doctors don't think exist!

Interesting and I've never heard of it. Can you see another doctor for a second opinion?

I have yet to talk to my GP (a family friend), but I have seen a number of different community and hospital midwives and 2 OBs checked my cervix at the hospital, but I am always sent away and told to come back if they get more painful, frequent and regular! Thing is too, I didn't seem to get one, the whole time I was hooked up to the NST monitor, which was for about 1/2 hour I think!!! (Typical) Everytime I call my community m/ws to say what's been happening, they hear the well I've had more that 4/5 in the last hour and send me to the labour ward at the hospital. The hospital then say I'm not in Labour and send me away. I can't do this for the next 14 wks!

I have been feeling them often too. My dr. said since it isn't messing with my cervix not to worry about it. I hope that nothing is going wrong with you. Ask your m/w and let us all know!

When you say you've been feeling them often - how many per day? Mine are really uncountable I guess, as I'm so uncomfortable and tight most of the time, it's hard to tell when a proper contraction comes. I'd say definately 15-20 proper ones though!

I'm going to see my Dr tomorrow morning. I'll let you know what we come up with.

Hi becky!

I have this exact same thing. Had it with my first, and have it with this one (in fact, just shifted in my seat and am having a BH now).

When DH and I ride in his pickup I have them really bad. When I go grocery shopping I have them, when I move around in bed at night or get up to go potty I have them, when someone (DH or DD ) sticks their finger in the little dimple that is my belly button I have them. If I drink liquid that is too cold or too warm I get them.

3-4 times a week now I have them regularly for 3 hours or so a day. I know as I get closer, I'll have them more often each day. My BH's usually come 5-8 mins apart for the duration of 3 hours. They don't get worse or better. Ultimately they just die off.

My docs know this is just the type of pregnancy symptom I have (like my one swollen leg) and it's perfectly fine with them and not worrisome.

BTW started getting my BH's around 17 weeks.

You're not alone
