High blood pressure?

My last 3 appointments, my blood pressure has been quite high. Not dangerously high.

My midwife has informed me that if it continues or gets higher, they may debate putting me in for induction at 38 weeks...

She said nothing is set in stone as I'm only 23 weeks, but she said these things have to be planned.

While I don't mind coming 2 weeks early, I'd rather it was when the little one is ready. Anyone got any ideas how I can get blood pressure down naturally?

I don't feel stressed

With increasing blood pressure, they get concerned about the development of pre-eclampsia (bp alone is NOT the only factor- so don't panic). Especially if this high bp is new to pregnancy. Here's what worked for me: 1) Eat lots of nutritious foods. When I'm pg I crave lots of foods that are bad for me, so I let myself eat those, but I make sure to eat lots of nutritious foods on top of it (which means I tend to gain a bit more weight). Vitamins/nutrients from food are MUCH better than from the prenatal vitamin. So eat lots of fruits and veggies. 2) Watch your salt. You don't have to eliminate it, just make sure you are staying in the lower range of normal amounts. 3) Exercise, exercise. If you are stressed, this will help relieve that. But also, exercise will help your cardiovascular system become stronger, which will decrease your bp. 3) Drink tons of water- I drink between 80-100oz, even though I HATE water. The more water in your system, the easier the blood flows through your system, which will decrease the bp. If you notice you are swelling more than a little (which is normal, but excessive swelling increases your bp), drinking lots of water will help, as will swimming or taking a bath. 4) Learn how to meditate or do a relaxation exercise and do this several times a day- it will help your system tune down a little. Hope that helps. Take it from me- it's worth it to try and get that bp under control now to prevent bigger problems in the future. But don't worry- you can do it

Hi, i have very high blood pressure due to a kidney problem, i take tablets to reduce in when not pregnant.

I have had all my children at 38wks (induced) due to high BP and they have planned to induce at 38wk on #4 also (which secretly i dont mind), they have changed my tablets to labetalol as it is safe in pregnancy (maybe you could suggest these, if you dont want to be induced).

Hope BP goes down naturally for you,

Sarah

Thanks ladies. I don't feel so scared now.

They're against giving me medication as I'm stuff for my eye condition and arthritis.

I've just signed up to aquanatal swimming too.

Thanks so so so so much for the advice. I was feeling really scared. Got to go back on Monday to get BP tested again.

Ive had high blood pressure for a while now, before even ttc and so im on medication to keep it down. I have had my meds swapped over to a safe one for the baby, and the doc's etc don't seem worried as long as it doesnt suddenly go up and it stays stable. I think they arent concerned yet, as its ok right now and it hasnt been caused by pregnancy.

So cant help too much, although i try to follow ragirl's advise-her tips are spot on.

keely.

ps-i also take labetalol tablets now too.
